Here is a short story for all of you...

Well, traffic was pretty much terrible...

The light changed and 20 or so cars in front of me stopped...

I had plenty of time to stop, so I put my feet down and checked my mirrors to make sure nothing was coming, (habit)

The car directly behind me got really close, but I could tell they were not going to hit me,

I heard tires squealing so i revved it up and moved forward (not much didn't have enough time...)

an SUV had slammed on it's breaks then plowed into the Toyota that was behind me at about 20 mph forcing the Toyota into me,

nearly broke my seat in half and threw me over the handles bars...

I landed on my feet, hugging the car in front of me...

I walked off to the side of the road and checked myself...

my bike was almost entirely under the Toyota...

bad day... =\

everyone had insurance... so it looks like everything will work out... just stinks...

I've got some scrapes and my back is alittle tight, but I had my armored jacket, pants, gloves, and my helmet on...

thank god...

Moral of this story is, always leave your bike in gear at a stoplight... and check your mirrors... it will save your life one day...

here are some pics...

btw... the toyota had 4 lawyers in it... lol

What a classic!

Seriously. . I'm thrilled your skills and vigilance kept you from being seriously injured. That's really scary stuff.

Less seriously . . . how's your neck and back feel? Hurt? . . I thought so. : )

I'm headed into the streets of NYC this morning and am glad I read this first.

There were these four lawyers in a Toyota parked on a Buell........
There's GOT to be a joke there.

Man! I'm glad YOU weren't parked under there with it. That could have been so bad.
It's really hard to watch for things you just can't see. You did good.
Lot's of positives on such a foul deed though.
Hope they rush this and get you re-biked quickly. With all those lawyers involved, maybe they won't dawdle.
Rotzaruck!

Very glad to hear you're okay and did not end up under the Toyota.

Be aware that those chain reaction crashes can get the insurance companies into a pissing contest over liability... I was the middle car (the Toyota) in a 3 car rear-end wreck like that at a toll booth in 2005. The last driver was cited for careless driving resulting in a crash, no one else was. His insurance paid my out of pocket no problem, but would not pay the first driver's damages or medical claims... they tried (unsuccessfully after 3 years) to say it was my fault because my vehicle struck his from behind.

haha, there was a cop behind the driver who caused the whole thing... I doubt that there will be any questioning of the fact that he is at fault...

Wow! Good job being aware of what's going on around you and wearing the right gear. So glad you are ok. The bike can be replaced. Best wishes for a speedy return to the saddle. BeLinda.

Svt, Thanks for sharing the information of your accident and the pix. I get lazy and don't keep my bike in gear while at a stop. This was a wake up for me as well as others on this board. Really glad your doing okay. What's the status of your bike/insurance claim? More importantly, what's your status?

10K in damages. Wow! I thought your bike was done and you would be getting a new one. Is that how it's going to work for you? How was the MRI, too early for the results? Hope all is okay.

hah, and I got a laugh out of them...

They told me insurance isn't about replacing the bike...

well Svt, I hope your tests come out good. I dont think worry about the bike is of importance, its you that matters, and your machine did a real good job of taking the brunt of the dammage, thank God for that, (they dont make bikes to take the hit for you, but yours did!). Dont let the insurance thieves get the best of you, if they get too stupid, just get a good lawyer thief.

Hey Svt,
So others (and me) can avoid the same insurance problems if we get in an accident. Who are you dealing with?

FYI, short story..
While I was waiting for my bike a few weeks back at a HD/Buell dealer, I ran across their insurance specialist. It's the guy that will deal with the insurance company while some unfortunate persons bike is being worked on. He told me that Progressive was really good to deal with and the others (Allstate - Statefarm -ect...) were just a notch or two under them. He said that Geico was the worst to deal with on his end as well as the owners.

Svt, hope you aren't dealing with Geico.
