Great...

...and we may need to talk in a coupla months.

I am looking into retiring from federal law enforcement and going to Iraq as a civilian contractor as a police firearms instructor, teaching at an Iraqi police academy. Exact location unknown at this time. But I was asked to send in a pre-employment pack after they received and liked my resume. Nothing happening until after May 1, 2005... related to processing the employment application.

I am a Viet Nam era vet, spent a year in Korea, a cop for 8 years and a fed for 20 years. I may want to pick your brain at some point.

Anyway... glad to hear you are headed back to the world soon!

I thought they were shutting Doha down to move everything to Arifjan. Hmm, we heard rumors about that six months ago. I guess it will take five or more years just like everything else in the military...

yea sean i heard that same rumor about a year or 2 ago but here i sit in this boring little camp that i have noticed the fob comander is really bas ackwards cuz we CANT bring weapons in any place such as the px, and defac he wont let u park tactical vehicles anywere exept way in the boondoks (but thats probly cuz he rides around in a new $60,000 suv of some sort) you cant have camel baks in the defac You cant wear the black steasons here (its a 1st cav thing for those that dont know in the 1st cav we are alowed to wear a black cowboy hat like the old cav) and theres about fifty million other really nonseince rules they have around here that make no sence and they all say they are by the instalation comander which leads me to belive he has alot of time on his hands to make stupid rules for people who dont do dick any way. but in a little over amonth from now i will be home any way.

Dasbuell:
let me know ill answer any questions u need as long as there not about sensitive stuff like exact were abouts of fobs and classifide stuff(which i dont know anything classified anyway)

Drfuyutsuki:

Yea im at doha and apart of the 1st cav lno and im helping redeploy the rest of cav (which means basicly im one of the last people getting to go home) but alot of cav people are only coming here for the costoms brefings and waht not then they are leaving.

and again thanks every one yall have defanatly been my little internet home away from home and sorse of info about the BEST motorcycles in the world.

They've been closing Doha since 1992 :-) Arifjan has always had (that may have changed in the past 6 months, but I seriously doubt it) power issues. Fire up a new C3 lab, get it config'd, and running, and then a massive power spike/outage/brown out/whatever. Doha sucks and Arifjan really sucks. I'd rather have dysentery, again, than revisit either location.

Are the Bling-Bling Brothers still outside the gate? I need a new Rolex because my old one is turning my wrist green :-)

Im not too sure about the bling bling guys but i do remeber when they used to go to arifjan for the rodeo and the would say every thing was bling bling. or they go broke for u and hook a brother up(imagine this from a guy with the voice like apu off the simpsons). Now i know they did have alot of imataion watches and stuff in iraq (i have an extinsive collection of bootleged dvds).

Are those the guys that sell movies? Man, they had a good selection, but they were $7 instead of the $5 or $3 that they cost in Baghdad... They had a bunch of computer stuff too, but it was all crap.

And yeah, they had the same rules when we were there. Man, it used to us off, especially when we found out we were going back into Iraq, to walk around Doha and see all those bastards complaining about the Starbuck's line being too long, or Baskin Robbins being out of Mint Chocolate Chip. Grrr...

Yea these guys are very spoiled in doha i dont htink that half of them would beable to last in iraq though i liked it better in iraq no one cared about stupid rules as long as u got the job done.well at cuervo any way it was a bit different at some camps like the biap area they had silly rules there but the only one that we had at cuervo was to have eye protection on at all times and be in proper uniform when out side.

Firebolt...

Just want to know generic stuff... like what I REALLY need to bring... what is hard to get... what is easy to get... weather related stuff. If I am hired, I MAY be living in a tent for a few weeks... when electricity is found, what adapters if any... etc. What barter stuff might be good to have, etc.

I understand the other stuff... had a TS a long time ago, now have a secret... understand all too well the "need to know" stuff. Just want to know day to day needs and personal gear recommendations, plus any input of wouldn't know to ask it type stuff.

Thanks!

When it gets closer to happening would like to talk on the phone to someone who has been there, and really knows the "you need" stuff... not some goofy list.

There's a World Superbike race this weekend in Qatr. Losail circuit. I think it's supposed to be somewhere near Doha, but my own geographical knowledge of that area is quite poor. Could get a 'bike fix' if you can make it there.....
