I believe that a 15-20 minute conversation between a state trooper and a motorcyclist while in the process of checking a VIN would be labeled as civic interaction and may actually be a positive form of communication.

Geesh Ray you get any tickets lately!!!!!

I got pulled over about two years ago for lofting the front wheel in front of an unmarked cop. After chatting to the nice fellow for 15-20 minutes he let me go with a warning.

This past summer myself, two fellow riders and some foreigner visiting from France (driving my convertible) were well over the speed limit and because we chatted for 15 minutes all we got was a warning. Hell he even let me take a picture which was posted here at the time.

Its their job to do random checks and if they want to chat so be it.

Drop the attitude against these guys and give them a break. Thats one job I do not envy.

Meanwhile, back on the road with the Country [City]X ...

I rode mine about 150 miles today... the trees are changing colors, the sun was shining, there was virtually no traffic, and the temperature was about 70-75 degrees.

The wife and I going for a ride tomorrow. I need to finish up the tread on the Harley since it is getting new tires next week, but.... I think I may take the CityX. It will be one week old tomorrow and it has 450 miles on it.

I hadn't realized how sloppy I had gotten with my riding until I spent some time on the CityX. Somewhere along the line I have gotten into a habit of forcing the bike into the corners with my arms and not using my body. The Buell doesn't seem to respond too well to that kind of input so I've had to make some adjustments. I was about to start tinkering with the suspension settings but I held off and tried to clean up my technique a bit. I'm glad I did as I am now taking curves faster with better lines and with less drama. The bike seems to know where the line is as long as I don't much up the works with excessive input.

I'm really impressed with this bike so far. It is helping me become a better rider.

As I agree with Ray on the basic issue, at least the guy was personable and what's important is Aa didn't feel imprisoned at the moment. Cops wasting your time with their agenda holding you hostage is one thing, having a genuine conversation is another. Prespective is ultimate. Ray is seasoned enough for his feelings, he didn't come by them without reason. As we may have shared experiences. Aa is happy and likes to talk about his bike. Nobody's wrong. New XB's rock and maybe there really was an interest. But I doubt it.

Last evening I was at a local HD/Buell shop and coincidentally the 'Riders Edge' students were gathering before their class and getting their safety equipment together.

A younger woman was somewhat 'captivated' by the CityX and a gorgeous XB12R and taking the time to color coordinate her riding apparel to the Buell's. Especially the 12R...her husband did not discourage her in the least by 'dissing' the Buells.

Did a salesperson respond to their obvious interests? Naaa, too busy in the apparel department and hyping the big twins on the floor.

I couldn't help myself. I casually bet $5 that I knew as much or more than any salesperson in the building...and set about proving that point.

Not one salesperson intervened, I had about 10 minutes of their attention to point out the most obvious differences, similarities, riding positions, technology and history. Now, I don't know that they were all that impressed with my personal presentation, but at least they have a 'clue' about the Buells...and, they will be doing the 'Riders Edge' on Buell Blast bikes!

Personally, I hope they make their first purchase a Buell XB series. What a great introduction to riding for a couple. From my first impression of the couple, they were not exactly 'cruiser crowd' material...they had that magical spark of intellect and a spirit of adventure just waiting to get out and express itself along the winding back roads of Missouri and across America.

If that young lady gets her way, I'll wager again that she goes XB!

Geezzz, I meet people all the time and they are Lucky to only be imprisoned for 15 to minutes by me as I love to talk !!

Shouldn't matter if your a cop or not, whatever area you meet someone, grocery store worker, cable guy sometimes you just enjoy chatting and some people you click with and enjoy it !!

I didn't get the impression they guy felt imprisoned by the cop, just that they carried on a good conversation !! If they fire you for doing that on the clock, I wouldn't have a job !!

I wished someone would explain the description and operation of an "asshat". I am sorry... I was sent into fits of laughter sitting at work when I read that terminology.

Anyhoo... dang glad you like the new bike! The guys at Las Vegas Harley have sold quite a few of those here. Now all we have to do is chase them down for our BRAG chapter support!

Trip, the Villain Black refers to the rim color.

ahhh i see! on the website it seems you can only view the cityx in blue- i figured the villain black was black with the black rims whereas the midnite black has the translucent amber. i really like the cityx, still not sure about those hand guards though, i'm going to hold out on buying a new bike for another year or so i'm keeping my fingers crossed for a new fangled cyclone or thunderbolt we'll see what the 2006 buell line-up has to offer! a new xb series cyclone or thunderbolt would be truly badass!!

In the eight years I have been in Law Enforcement it has truly taught me one thing. There are those of us who has so much hate, they will be the first one to say when a cop or anyone does something against the norm. And then there are the ones who just like to interact and enjoy life. Thus riding a Buell. I love riding my XB and I know everyone out there does. IT just excites me to see other Buellers when I don't see many on the streets. WIth that in mind I hope you all come ridding through my city while I am working one day cuz your darn right your gonna get pulled over by me!!!!!

And SAR... when I was a cop, I also dealt with the ones that thrashed and trashed us to pieces then wanted you to instantly teleport to their home when they dialed 911 because their neighbors dog was eating out of their garbage can.

I was recently riding thru a small town on Sunday morning thinking no was around rode a wheelie down mainstreet. I was stopped in a second by an officer. After talking a few minutes about bikes and my Buell{he had never seen one} he let me go with a verbal. He was really decent considering what could've happened. I don't have anymore of a hard on against cops than most regular people. Be decent and most times they will be decent back. I could go and on about bad run ins with cops and about good run ins. whats the point. I would rather BS about bikes than end up in jail for being a . since Buells are a rarity, one should be happy to share the spirit. I do when possible. there is more than enough hate to go around.

My hat's off to our LE types. A thankless job for a pitiful salary.

I grew up the son of deputy sheriff (serious stigma there and I lived up to it too -- wife was the preacher's daughter, so, we made quite the couple ; ) still married after 24 years too.)

Thanks for the compliment Vegasbueller. The radio gear pretty much just sits collecting dust since I took up motorcycle riding. If we have a normal winter I may have to get reacquainted with it.

I picked up the "asshat" term on another motorcycle forum. The context in which it is used is generally not particularly hostile.

I used to simply hate all cops. Never saw one worth his salt. Untill I got my Buell. Now I ride with two guys that are cops and humans! Destroyed YEARS of carefully prepared dogma...
But I still bristle when I see the SWAT uniforms approaching
