I've got some...ummm...blemishes on one of my saddlebags and I'd like to cover them up. Has anyone ever used Rhino-Lining, textured paint or a similar type material to coat their luggage?

Thanks

Tim

Not luggage but I used the duplicolor 'truck bed liner' kit on my frame.

It help up pretty decent in areas that weren't directly in contact with my foot or heel. But I would suggest dropping the dime and getting them done with the real deal 'Rhino lining'

They are a form of ABS plastic. It is an expensive process to bring them back to original, but it can be done.

I have never tried the bed liner stuff on ABS, but man it does seem to stick to anything as long as it is cleaned properly.

I have done several of the insert parts, wheels, chin fairings and many other parts. I have not painted the ABS part of the bags yet. I have one to do when time allows. The most difficult part to replicate is the texture. As far as getting paint to stick it is about three extra materials and steps beyond normal painting to make it right.

As far as the liner stuff, I would say try it in a small hidden area first, see how it looks and holds up, if you like it after a week or so, go for it.

I've used a Krylon (I think, may be duplicolor, I'd have to check out in the garage) spray paint that is advertised to "bond to plastic".

It actually does.

I did the gray strips on my bags with it. Painted 'em texture black and have yet to ding it, nick it, or flake it off. I'm thinking about un-painting the orange (I did the silver panels in orange to match the Uly) and just making it all texture black.

Thanks folks. I tried some Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner on a cooler I had lying around. It was kind of rubbery and when I scratched it with my fingernail, the whole thing peeled off. I think it's made for metal surfaces. I'll keep looking.

I don't know how to look it up but I think someone on here did their motorcycle airbox cover and front screen with Line-X coatings. It's very durable but I didn't really care for the look.

The stuff I used is called "Fusion" paint...but my feeble brain still can't remember the brand. It's made specifically for plastic, and is a texture finish to boot.
