In a moment of clarity completely devoid of dealer's meetings, marking material, or new models, I had a total Tony Stewart moment. You know the commercial. I walked out of the pizza joint and just froze. There she was! Under the streetlights at just the right angle. I stopped and remembered just how much joy I get from that 6 year old bike. It was dirty from use and road grime. The polished frame had a layer of oxidation and water spots from the last rain. Hell, it wasn't even the good side. But it hit me and I froze to study it. I stood there long enough to make people inside poke their heads out to see what I was doing.

Now don't get me wrong. Sometimes I go to the garage to tinker when in reality I'm just checkin on her. I ride her most days it's not raining on the way to work. But still something just hit me tonight. I was transfixed.

Anybody else have a Tony Stewart moment lately?

Keep the shiny side up.

There are times when I can't ride.
At the beginning of this month was one of those times.
I went out to the garage during the time of non-riderness and just looked at it.
It ain't as pretty as it was when I bought it, it's been down on both sides, and tons of miles, but I still enjoy how it looks.

I don't know Tony, but I have those moments.
When I'm captured at home and involved in some kind of project, I park it in the driveway, just so I can peek at it every now and then. I know exactly what you are talking about.
It's pretty scroungy, stays dirty (if there's time to wash, there's time to ride)and banged up looking, in the most lovely kind of way.

I call it... "The Stare"

I do it occasionally to my Buell. But when my father or I do some bodywork/paint work on an old car, we always joke that the longer you stare at it, the brighter it will shine when it finally gets buffed out.

I did that yesterday. When I was broken down on the side of the highway. I've got it bad.

I ride her most days it's not raining on the way to work. Ditto

The fun part about the "stare".... it doesen't matter how small the change was...
if you put a new sticker on it...
Polished something...
Added the smallest farkle....

I will open the garage door countless times to look at then new add on...

Most nights I give it a look before I go to bed..

"Anybody else have a Tony Stewart moment lately?"

Not this morning, I had a 25 mile romp through wisconsin thunderstorms and tornado warnings last night....she's a bloody mess.

Chrome and polished aluminum do not mix well with rain and sloppy road spray. I have 3 hours of work tonight, after work.
