Now this is a good idea; heck, I'd even splurge and buy one, if only Buell offered one for the XB series...

While I like the idea, you still have to straighten the bike up to get an accurate oil level reading. My VR has the dipstick about shin height on the left side of the motor so its impossible, by yourself, to level the bike and bend down to see the level.

For me, its sorta gimicky.

bring back the sight glass!!

My girlfriend's 1980's tech Ninja 250 has the sight glass. Why anyone would do it any differently is beyond me.

I also wish motorcycle mfg's like HD and Buell would have some sort of clear glass fuel filler cap. I get a good idea of where I am, but it never fails that I splash fuel because of overfill.

Yeah I need a piece of tech that runs on watch batteries to be between me and a blown motor. I'll take the few min out of my day to check it the ol' fashion way.

Call me sentimental

There's a company up in northern Minnesota that's been making a similar device for diesel trucks since the 1970s.

I was thinking about how to build one of those for a while.

Anybody have one? When you first put it in after an oil change, do you have to "recalibrate it" by pushing a button or something? Or is it really plug and play?

That's easy, get a McCuff. No splash back and the when the nozzle shuts off the tank is full. No need to top-off.

+1 on the sight glass.
I grew up with Kawasakis and it makes the most sense to me.

While the 1125R/CR needs to be straight up, the XBs are checked while resting on the kick stand so I would absolutely be in line for one of these dipsticks if they were ever to become available for the older 05-03 style XB swing arm.

I like the sight glass idea. I loved that about my Kawi Zephyr but that could only be applied to new production bikes, as in new cases.

The dipstick would work on existing models.

I hate sight glasses.

There are a few good ones. Most are a complete stand-on-your-head-while-balancing-the-bike pain.

I thought the price for that digital unit is very un-attractive for what it adds too.

(and I'm in a pretty good mood)

"and I'm in a pretty good mood"
You must be, I was expecting a much more... blunt... respone to this item.

Sight glasses are cool if they're in a good spot. Vamps Zephyr has one, makes like easy. I love gadgets, but I can handle a dipstick under the seat.
I like having an oil pressure gauge in my cars - if it goes a bit low on acceleration, I know I've been slack and haven't topped it up : )

What I'd really like on my X1 is a clock so I know how late I am : D.

I would not spend $140 on an oil dipstick for my bike even if (in the unlikely event) Angelina Joile had just paid me $1,000,000 for a wild night of sparkling conversation.

If brake fluid reservoirs are any indication of sight glass quality, I'll pass on those too. The ones on my bikes are clouded over and worthless. You'd think those puppies would have some built-in UV protection for us guys that take our bikes out of the garage on occasion. : )
