In my country, it gets no worse than this (for Mennis) --

Arrangements are seemingly in flux -- check WIndy City page on Storm Fronts for deatils as they become available

Damn, that sucks. I met Greg several years ago at Homecoming and always enjoyed talking with him. He will be missed.

This is heart wrenching sad news. Condolensces to you and all of Greg's friends and especially family. If there's anything we can do here on BadWeB to help lift up Greg's family and friends, please don't hesitate to let us know.

I know this isn't a picture of Greg but it's from our October 2006 trip to Deal's Gap...

I can't believe this.... Ben (Badlionfan) told me at Mid Ohio after my last race (I'm glad he waited) When he first told me I said WHO? Then he showed me Gregs pic.... I can't even describe my reaction... Here is the guy I met at March Badness, Homecoming.... at the track.. shared a bus ride with... Helped him at Road America.. I just can't believe it!!

TO YOUNG!!! TO YOUNG!!!

I haven't cried in years... I did today.....

Didn't know if you knew him or not Mark, but either way I knew you didn't need to know while you were racing.

Had my passenger pegs down all day, and they will stay down all week.

Does anyone know if there will be any kind of collection or where the family would like donations to be sent, or one of the online "guest books" that they have to send the family a note? Buellers and BadWebers are good people and I'm sure there's something we can do to help out.

All -- forgive me if this isn't making a whole lot of sense, but my noggin just isn't working right at present . . .

I mentioned this to Paul in an email earlier today . . . .

Greg always made the Slimey Crud Run -- you could count on him to show up, on time, at the Belvidere Oasis with a smile and a comment on the weather, your age, lack of handsomeness and a firm handshake -- I was thinking about passing a helmet around at the crud run, or pledging some filthy lucre for the ride, to go to Dana when all is said and done . . . .I've no idea how she stands fiscally, but experience tells me that you never have enough, and an envelop with a check, and a list of folks who gave, may put a smile on her face for a moment . . . .

If this is out of bounds for the board, or just a stupid idea all together, I'm sure someone will say so (rueful grin), but it seems like an OK idea right now

any ideas, comments, or random thought gratefully accepted

break break

just came back from a long ride with my best riding partner, wingman, and wife -- out through the Kettle, slowly, admiring the just changing leaves, passenger pegs down . . . .. . .

Greg is one of the people in my life that I never spent enough time with -- I'll be sure to tell Dana of everyone's good wishes when I see her Tuesday

Although I didn't know Greg well he sounds like he was a man that if you didn't know him you really missed out. Rocco,Bomber, and Lake are some of the best people you'd ever want to know. Hearing you guy's speak of him help's know him more in round about way. My and Andrea's heart goe's out you's as well.

Bomber,

I don't know if I can be at the SCR but I think it is a wonderful idea and great gesture. I think everyone will step up to the plate. Also I'd like to say welcome back I for one missed your posts.

Bomber. That is in the works for the races this weekend as well. I'd like to somehow turn it into one nice check. Count me in on the donation. I will keep in touch. It's just a damn shame it has to be done.
I also plan on running Greg's number on my race bike next year. Also getting a ride together in his memory. It's still doesn't seem real.
We took a walk down to Lake Michigan today.
Our 12 year old son, Jon really liked Greg. Greg nicknamed him "the sun glass king" at Road America this year because he goes through sun glasses like water. My Wife and I stayed up on the rocks while he went down to the beach. We sat and talked awhile, then I yelled down to him that it was time to go. He was busy moving white rock around. He couldn't hear me over the waves, so I went down by him. He had gathered a bunch of fist size rocks and spelled Greg name out with them in the sand. He's a great kid.

My condolences in this time of sorrow. I seem to be hearing these types of stories much too often. I am truly sorry for his friends and family. Words can seem so hollow at a time like this.

I only met Greg a few times, he was one of those people you'd class as "friend" from the outset.

He'll be sorely missed.

Found this on a different site.

It is with a sad heart that I write of the passing of Greg Holman of Downers Grove Illinois, age 47. Greg was involved in a streetbike crash.

Greg was my longtime aquaintence and also my older brother's MX and street riding buddy from the 70's and 80's. Many knew him as "Gringo", and had raced MX in the Northern Illinois area from the Mid 70's thru about 2005 when he suffered a back injury. If you went to Byron, you probably knew him. If memory serves, Greg was the 1996 District 17 125 B MX champ. Greg also roadraced Buells and loved to tour on his Harley.

Greg was one of those guys that eat, slept, and breathed motorcycles. As it turns out, this hard working, funny, and talented rider was taken out by a pothole while riding his Buell.

I can't begin to explain how hard it is to lose someone you looked up to as a kid and admired as an adult, but but this world will be a lesser place without Greg. Ride on, my friend!

taken out by a pothole while riding his Buell

Damn...that really sucks!! When I read one of the early newspaper articles on-line, I had a gut feeling that it was not rider error. What's really weird is that I kept playing scenarios in my head last night. The only two things that kept repeating were a tire failure or an obstacle in the road.

I'll see you all tomorrow night with pegs down and Buell roaring!!!

What a sad day. I've been so busy that I hadn't been on here for a few days and then I read this. I had met Greg first thru phone calls and emails about a pipe of his bike and then we met a few years ago at March Badness. I remember someone chasing me down on a Uly in semi-wet conditions and I was curious who it was. When we stopped it was Greg. He was a great rider. Always a laugh to be had. I wish I had known him better. I had just talked to him about a month ago about another pipe for his race bike. I will miss him. Please post if donations can be made from afar. I know you guys that knew him well will miss him dearly. He was great to be around.......

I am emailing Greg's father these threads, so he can see just how many lives that greg has touched. He will be missed.

Nancy(Fiery) made some seriously AWESOME decals in memory of Greg, and handed them out tonight. Way to go NANCY!

I met Greg first time at a Homecoming , and he was a great guy to be around.

I only met him for a short time...

Once my bike is running, I'll be riding rear pegs down.

Godspeed Greg.

Steve,

If there are any extra of those stickers, I'd like one for my track bike!
