The original thread is archived. My son's 2006 Blast has damaged crank splines. The warranty situation was iffy, and it took a little time to get a decision as to whether the repair would be covered by warranty.

So...a final update to close the thread:

The H-D dealer just called me. The damaged flywheel/crank assembly is going to be replaced at no charge to me and we will have the bike back by the end of the week.

The cause of the failure remains a mystery -the primary sprocket nut was in place and tight when the primary case was opened.

I am very happy with the dealer and with Buell.

John

this is the same dealer who originally refused to warranty it, and blamed this issue on low primary oil?
What are they going to do about the damaged piston, conrod, etc., they alleged to have found?

IIRC from the original thread the dealer assumed all that stuff was damaged (and we all know about "assume") because the engine appeared to have no compression when it was cranked over. The problem was actually that the primary sprocket was free-wheeling on the crank.

Glad to hear they came through for you John.

I believe he was handed a $2,500 RO....You really think they wouldn't have performed the piston/Conrod R&R after having him sign the RO?
I do NOT consider this "coming through for" John, I consider this a scumbag shop who was busted by corporate, and is now doing what they're being compelled to after being exposed.
Expect more drama surrounding this service issue.
