BOOO!

30 miles? Wonder how long it has to charge for that 30 miles? What's he paying in elec. to charge it? How many pollutants are in the air to produce the electricity?

Like my Grandpa says, "not enough salt for a nickel".

Oh, and ruining an 80's icon, double boo.

I used to wonder what it took to charge the elec cars but apparently it is very cheap and you could of course have a solar panel and get some for free.

They have actually started to quote prices for an overnight charge on some vehicles and I don't remember the numbers, but it is cheap.

I would bet we are burning more power on these computers (that almost no one had say 15 years ago compared to now that we all have a couple of computers each.)

And how many home theater systems are there today vs several years ago? how much power does that cost.

Just saying, there is a lot to think about, we use most power for heat and a/c where in many places they don't even have A/C on average.

Las Vegas needs to chill out on it's lighting and air conditioning the desert. What does that say to the world?
(Maybe not really, but think about it a second.)

He should have replaced the original with a turbo diesel.

I know my 65" DLP Toshiba draws as much current as a 100W light bulb. That's no biggie at all. I turn out all the lights in the house when I watch it anyway for that full "Theatre Effect."

Now as for my buddy with his plasma TV... that's a whole 'nother can of worms. He can cool the neighborhood with the outside electric meter when he powers that thing on... (for those who LOVE taking apart my exaggerations... yes... that IS an exaggeration, NOT fact).

I bought a plasma a few months ago and I can feel the heat a couple of feet away...

Vegas is a fairly inhospitable place without air conditioning.

No doubt but people lived there before A/C too.

I'm not giving up my A/C so I'm not trying to play high and mighty, just food for thought.

You could argue that (modern)Las Vegas only exists due to gambling.

Disclaimer (I know there is lots to do other than that now, but it was all born of gambling and other "recreational" activities that were not allowed in the "Company Town" that was building the dam so that we could make the bomb.)

I only brought it up to point out that we use energy in lots of ways- some just for fun.

I think solar should be huge in places like Vegas and all of Florida.

I mean for as long as I can remember they have had paint testing "labs" here that were basically panels holding paint samples and pointing at the sun.

Sadly it looks like it will be up to the Chinese to mass produce affordable solar panels and maybe Wal-Mart will have the muscle to bring the panels to us.

Vegas is Nuclear. It has little carbon footprint energy source.
Wind and solar are definately not viable sources....YET. Wind farms are coming along and should be big, big, big in 7-10 years.

But that energy could be channeled to the rest of the west....and the dam changed the landscape in a major way too.

Anyway, I'm not anti Vegas, was just making kind of a random example.

We should have more nuclear and recycle the waste like France does.

Scare tactics (and a near miss) blew that dream for the U.S.

But it is fine to power war ships with nuclear, no one ever bitches about that.
