Hmm, which was the chicken and which was the egg?

Recognizing that the key to a successful V engine is to keep it as compact as possible, Aprilia have found an innovative way to drive the dual overhead cams; the inner (inlet) cams are driven by a conventional chain, and the outer ones are actually driven by the inner ones, through a series of gears.

Can anybody say "Helicon"?

Just the 1st time I had read that they used the one cam driving the other.

Doesn't Rotax provide the engines for Aprilia?

Doesn't Rotax provide the engines for Aprilia?

Not any more, Aprilia is now making their own engines.

I think the ktm has that cam drive too now. Saw it on something other than a helicon recently.

Edit: Found it, the 2009 VMAX has chain drive to the intake cam which then gear drives the exhaust cam.

It can't be that innovative or it would be patented !!!

The Desmosedieci is better, and with less
parasitic loss from valve spring friction.

The Aprilia, however, may be available to us
mere mortals.Sounds great.I wonder what the
firing order is like.BIG BANG?
