1980 CBX I6 Cafe Racer:

Here's a video:

I just can't stop looking at this bike. Ever since I finished my salvage to track bike project, that is all but maintenance, I can't fill the need to wrench on some thing. I think I'm going to have to pick some thing like this up over the winter.

That's a sweet bike! I was out in Steamboat Colorado several years ago and the CBX group was at the same condo I was renting. Those guys were having a ball!
When they lit them all up at the same time, Wow!

the I6s (cbx and kz 1300) were both sweet with aftermarket pipes twisting together.

Unfortunately they have become collectibles in any kind of decent shape, and rough
ones have probably been ridden into the ground, or other stationary object.

Have you guys seen this site?

http://cb750cafe.com/

I want to try a CB750 conversion with modern wheels, forks, swing arm, brakes, and controls.

I'm thinking of using XB set up with chain. I'd have to fab up a custom swing arm.

I want one of these nasty retro, scrub cafe racers.

I've also been drooling over a Thruxton 900 or Sport 1000S.

It was down to the Thrux and cityX when I was bike shopping. basically the deciding factor was the local triumph dealer never had one in stock new or used, and triumph doesn't do the IMS so i never got to sit on one. sat on the cityX and the rest was history...

Nice Ducati tail section! With underseat exhaust! Looks good.

Just noticed the Ducati SSS and wheels. Did you use the front end too?

I bought a new CB750F Super Sport in 1979. For $1600.00 more I could have had that CBX sitting next to it......until I called my insurance company. Back then it was $500.00 more a year for insurance.

Ironically it was touted as having 103 horse power. Hmmmm.....that sounds familiar!

Is it just the perspective in the pictures, or does it look like the rear wheel is going to be hitting the mufflers?

I'd love to hear that wail again! Got a chance to ride a CBX when I was only 16... it was a hell of a rush and I didn't even go fast. The scariest part was stopping... the bike is huge. Or at least it seemed that way to me back in 1979.

Those bikes were, I think, in the 580 pound range and very long. Even longer standing straight up with the tail light nearly dragging! Triple disc brakes that were worthless compared to what we have now.

I thought I saw a small article in a bike magazine that said Honda was going to relaunch the CB1100F. Now that would make a kickass street fighter.
