Does anyone know if it is possible to buy the turn signal bulbs for a Harley that are red instead of amber or clear? I have read lens caps on mine and have them wired to come on with the brake light, but I would like to go with smoke lenses and still have them be red when I brake.

If I can't buy them red, would painting them be an option? I've not painted an bulb and I'm just not sure what paint to use and whether the paint would hold up. I am also concerned it would cut down on their brightness too much. Any help would be appreciated.

Dan

If you can't find the bulbs, hit a Pepboys and they sell high temp. caps that can be put over the bulbs. I did blue on the reverse lights of an old pickup I had. They are still pretty bright and the caps will not be too noticeable with the smoke lenses.

+1 on red LED bulbs if you can find them for turn signal applications. Mainly because they will be clear when not in use and look good behind a smoked lens.

Sorry for the ignorance, but do the red LED bulbs plug in to the current bulb sockets, or will I need to wire new sockets into the turn signals?

They should be plug and play, with all the neccesary ballasts wired into the bulbs base...

You should be able to get them at the local autoparts store in a number of sizes...

Thanks everyone, that sounds way too easy. I was sure this was going to be difficult and expensive.

I'm looking for a cheap, clear or smoke lens for my taillight on the X1 since I replaced my old bulb with LED's. I hadn't looked at the smaller bulbs but Autozone had the 1157 (I believe) in stock in LED, it was, as Spidey said, plug and play.
