I'm looking around for a second bike to use as a daily commuter rather than racking up the miles on my M2. I've been narrowing down the choices by dependability and ergonomics.

One of the bikes I'm considering is an early 90's Honda 750 Nighthawk. Used to own a 82 CB750 so I'm quite familiar w/ the Honda.

Another that's caught my interest is the Suzuki 600 Bandit. Haven't had any exposure to this particular model, so I'm looking for some input -- anyone here had one? What was your ownership experience like? Anything to be wary of?

I'm 6'0, 210 lbs on a good day, so I'm also looking for some insight as to the seat position.

There's one for sale in my price range, but it's 1 1/2 hours away. Would rather not have to make the trip if it's not going to be a good bike to consider.

Any other suggestions for a standard/touring style commutable bike that's reliable and low maintenance would be appreciated as well.

Thanks, guys.

What about an older XB? or maybe a 650 V-Strom? Might be more than you what to spend I don't know but you too can be a two Buell household!

I had a 92 Nighthawk 750 - practically bulletproof - change the oil and ride - Not as fun as a Buell, but it'll keep the wind in your hair - about 45 - 55 mpg too

The older City-X is pretty comfortable around town in traffic (test rode one out of Glendale)

The SV-based motor as used in the V-Strom is also really manageable and really similar to what the XB delivers. Either can be had for cheap.

What about a smaller displacement Nighthawk?

You'll not be happy with a Bandit 600, it's got a very soft power delivery, and you have to get it up to at least 7000rpm to get to 65mph. It's a very long and heavy bike to be a 600. The new ones are water cooled and are supposed to be a lot more powerful.

Now the 1200, that's a whole different story.

I have had a few GSXR 1100 bikes and they are really nice. 1993 they made the switch to water cooled and I know of quite a few guys running thier air cooled early models and they have good luck with them. They are some really nice comfortable bikes you can pick up for about 3,000 or so if you really look.

I test rode a Blast with hopes of having a two-buell stable, but I felt like an 800lb gorilla on a mini-bike. Furthermore, the top speed w/ me on it was about 85mph wfo.

I'd love to have an older XB, but I'm trying to keep the purchase around the $1500 mark and don't hold any hope of finding one that's worth having at that price.

The bike I think I'd really like (have yet to even sit on one, let alone take it for a ride) is a Suzuki SV650. Really like the looks and when I see a rider on one I like the rider position.

The Nighthawk750 I'm supposed to see Saturday is in really nice condition. Unless something else comes up, it'll most likely be taking up a spot in my garage soon.
