A few that have come to be pet peaves "Honestly Speaking" Really, if you are going to lie to me, you would preface it with "I am just lying to you" ? To be Frank with you... Damnit knock it off, your name doesnt even start with F! "I hear what you are saying, I know others have felt that way too, but I have found.... " If I want an objection banter from you, I would have asked. And from the sales floor on a daily basis, "I am just looking", and "I need to think about it." EVERY body is always looking, with the exception of the blind guys, and if you are going to separate yourself from a fat wad of cash without "thinking" about it, what other wreckless things are you up to? and for good measure "Here's your sign" | ||

Sad to say that I worked for a large publicly traded company that was run by Oprah's book of the month club (Who Moved My Cheese, Good to Great, Raving Fans, etc.). It gave me a great glimpse into the intellectual capacity of people running corporations when you build the marketing strategy of a multibillion dollar corporation out of a book. This is, I think, still a pretty popular thing to say, so I'm risking some flack here, but I've always found this to be an odd thing to say: "Not fer nothin', but. . . " Not fer nothin? I mean, from the context, I surmise it to mean something like, Not that it matters, or here's why you're wrong, or something. I don't know. I just think it's weird. And, I hear myself saying it sometimes. Makes me crazy. Since I live up here in Soprano-land, I also hear a lot of "without a doubt", but it sounds like "yo, witout a doubt" (with hands waving around) | ||

If I could expunge one word from the current lexicon it would be "like". It blows me away listening to the under 25 set, particulary the females. Every other word is like you know like like.. In a 10 word sentence it will appear 3 or 4 times! In years past my daughter and I used to get in to BIG arguments regarding this. Recently she mentioned that it now bugs her! She is now the manager of a large dog kennel/boarding place. Some of the staff she manages drive her nuts! She won't let some of them answer the phone because they sound so unprofessional. Man, is that a weird turn for the old man... | ||

Good to Go. and the slurring there of Goottago A couple that are around our shop that drive me closer to going postal "Windows & Floors" as in that is all I do, windows and floors dont expect anything more from me than that (wouldnt be bad if it were coming from a janitor) "Column Left" Inside joke with another Devil Dog that has gone too long. It is that mgt has left the reservation and is walking off a cliff on a certain issue... And my all favorite. Decaf Coffee. COurt, Starbucks is the McDonalds of Coffee. For quality or good service I reccomend upgrading to Dennys. Nuff Said. I hate "..at this time..." It's redundant, and "Now" can be infered via use of good (even marginal) engrish skills. Webcentric is starting to piss me off. Internet based, bugs me. Synergy. YUCK. [Time to get on my soap box] And my worst. "Root Cause" Look, I'm in a line of work where we need to find out exactly what caused a defect, and it's never ONE thing. People who look for ONE cause of a defect (Etc, Etc) are bound to end up suffering the same problem again and again. In the worst cases "Human Error" is the identified "Root Cause" and the problem goes completely unresolved. "To Err IS Human" "An expert is simply one who has made all the possible mistakes" [Off Soap Box} | ||

Wow Paul - "root cause" - BULLSEYE! Seems to be a desire in politics to come up with a "root cause" - in a "do something, ANYTHING, even if it's wrong" kind of world.
