Holy cow it's cold here in Florida!!! Gonna have to store my bike for winter. So...do I need to add gas stabilizer and install a battery tender to my bike to let it sit for 2 days?

Move south Mark! It's still cold here in NC, but it will be short lived in comparison to OH winters! I don't miss them.

It was 45 here yesterday, went riding up to the snow line and pushed some white stuff through the nobbies. those new Mt-60s bite into the powdery stuff pretty good.

I went to school in Daytona Beach and LOVE Florida.
BUT we eventually get nice riding weather like that here in NH (while you are sweating or take the air conditioned cage instead).
On the other hand, you NEVER get to ride local places like those below. For that, I am willing to have limited riding during the winter (instead of limited riding in the summer on roads that are flat and straight all year long!)
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

"Winter is here"

Yep,sure is.About time too as,when else can we dismantle the bikes and do proper maintainance without interrupting riding.
Winter allows me to be intimate with my machinery,so when i rev it to 12000 RPM i'll know i had a hand in it

Hey,that's MY Racing red Buell just above! NH roads/riders ROCK!

We have days here that don't reach 70!

We're sufferin' here in CA I tell you!

I know some folks with their new 1125R's that haven't ridden them more than 4-5 days a week now.

Sufferin' I say!

Brumbear,

You're right about the top two being Cadillac Mountain. I make that ride about four or five times a year. The summit is only about 20 miles from my house. It is usually my first ride of the year and the last too sometimes.

The top photo is looking northeast across Bar Harbor towards the Schoodic Peninsula, the second looking back to the south on the way back down from the summit.

For those that have not been there, Mount Cadillac is in Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, ME. It is the highest point of land on the eastern seaboard. At 1,476 feet is really only a hill but I guess it looked like a mountain to some.

I'm looking forward to Scott telling us where the other two photos were taken.

Jack

I'm not Scott but AM in those last two photos. The first one is at the summit of Mt. Washington NH at OVER 6288' the tallest mountain in the northeast. The last one was on our way to Laconia bikeweek. It was just south of Laconia NH.

And to think I was actually planning on taking a trip to Florida towards the end of February when I am on leave from guarding our Northern Border, preventing the invasion from the blood thirsty Canadians from the north. I just may have to stay home and shovel snow now.

Yes you are all correct on the picture locations and those are just from where we stop.
In between are some epic roads. I hope to have some on board video this season...
You can ride from sea level to 6000' in a couple of hours!

Thanks Scott and Ducxl, I suspected Mt. Wasington. I'm going to get up there this year, it is only 188 miles from my house to the summit. A nice day ride.

The last 8 miles are the moment of truth I'm told. You never know until you get to the Mount Washington Auto Road whether or not it is a good day to go to the top.

We were at 0F at 0630 in Ellsworth, ME this morning. The Jotul wood burner here in the living room has been running at a casting temperature of 400-450F for two hours and the living room is now at a comfy 68F. Blue skies, bright sun on two or three feet of recent snow, its a beautiful thing.

Jack

Check in over in Storm Fronts for NEBO and New Hampshire Thunder and/or post when you are going riding Jack (and any of the rest of you in the area or thinking about visiting).
You are correct about going up MT. W. it is hit or miss regardless of the weather in the area - it makes it's own weather!
The good news is even if you do not go up, the roads around it are outstanding!

Jack,
You'll have to check out my friends B&B in South Harbor, The Cranberry Hill Inn. And her soon to be Italian restaurant around the corner. Flew and drove up to Cadillac Mtn. the last trip. I want to trailer up to Maine this summer and ride the area.

"..summer (in the North East) is worth the wait..."

I have to agree. And winter has its own joys and is just part of the process.

Steve,

That's probably in Southwest Harbor, I get out there all the time and will look for it. Southwest Harbor is the beginning or end point for the seasonal power boat deliveries I do for occasional work. That is something I enjoy as much as motorcycling and, can you believe, I get paid to do it?

Southwest it is. Lots of boats out that way. Watch out for them lobster pots.
