FT_BSTRD I doubt my opinion alone will change the outcome of the entire BMC. I did not wish ill will upon them either. And how dare you misconstrue my words in such a manner. If I'm not mistaken hasn't Erik and Co. received great deals of feed back from this forum? I'm giving my $.02, and I made a suggestion and voiced my opinion. As have you in the past and not once did I ever respond in such a way.

What did you expect? I believe you expected some sort of negative reaction by the title of your thread.

Most of my post wasn't directed to you directly. It just happened to be in your thread. I appologize for my harshness. You were right to call me on it. My post was, however, directed to the continual "I hate the looks" crowd.

WE GET IT. MOVE ON!

Why not post your thread in the 1125R section? Was it because it might get lost among all the other "I just saw the 1125R and I think it's ugly" threads? Does anyone believe that BMC hasn't heard from enough people that there are some that don't care for the looks?


As the pinnacle of Erik and crew's efforts over the last 25+ years, how could this statement be construed as anything but an affront?

"I feel as if the bike has exhausted its presence just as it sets tire on the roads of the world."

So a bike that incorporates some of the latest technological advances ever to come out of BMC is already tired?

what all the "i don't like it's looks crowd" are missing is the view and feel from the rider's seat. try it and you may change your mind. i just wanted the motor and handling anyway. i had resigned myself to picking up an xbr earlier this year until they announced the 1125R and after riding one on the track, i'm glad i ordered early. i'll probably pick up a used xbr some time in the future just to complete the set. happy holidays!! oh yeah, remember it's just a motorcycle, ride what you want.

Frankly this diversity of opinion and the ability to discuss it is what kinda makes badweb cool.

Who expects everyone to like it? One of the guys in my wife's office bought a Dodge Viper several years ago . . talk about a rolling turd. . . but he likes it so marvy.

Buells elicit passion. Anyone know of another brand that has such active groups of ex-owners? Like the bike or not, you never get the Buell hooks out of you . . .

The 1125r CAN (fingers still crossed on how marketing handles this) be a huge sales success for Buell. I'm betting that the good Buells sales people will open their eyes, realize this bike has a market well outside their traditional customer base and are pursuing them. Like the Ulysses, I would suspect that a significant number of 1125r purchasers will have never owned a Buell or HD product before. If you are a Buell dealer and have not already sought/got the mailing list for the local sportbike club, you are behind the curve.

Buell has done some amazing things with with and leading up to, the intro of the 1125r. Many will love the bike, most will love the changes the 1125r PROCESS has brought to Buell and there will always be several folks who don't like anything.

The 1125r has the ability to move Buell to the next level. I expect significant developements, advances, successes and announcements in the coming year.

The looks of the 1125r are quite unique, in my opinion. It looks somewhat "specialized" and this fits in nicely with some of the other current Buell models. Function over form. The first time I saw a Ulysses, I thought, without a doubt, that it was the ugliest bike on the road.
There is one in my garage now.
Personally, I'm really not overly concerned with looks. I just want the damned thing to do what it's supposed to do. I can hardly wait to test ride an 1125r to see just what it can do but my local dealership is selling them faster than they arrive. I can't even get a look at one much less ride it! This fact speaks for the new model loud and clear. This might not be a fair comparison but at least twice now HD has shut down for a week in an effort to reduce supply of their product in a strong market. This new Buell on the other hand can't keep up with demand in a weak market. To me, the future of BMC looks very bright.

After the 152nd "The 1125R has giant ugly saggy tits for side pods" thread, it gets a little old. Wait to see what happens.

I agree with you, to a point. However, it cuts both ways. I get tired of the Kool-Aid drinking crowd that never allow dissenting opinion. I've seen on several occasions people slammed for conveying facts let alone opinion. Yes, time will tell whether or not the 1125r will go the way of the Edsel but I'm confident Buell will produce other Rotax based models that will satisfy a wider range of riders.

I am a black sheep, so my biggest problem with the bike, is that it will sell like hotcakes.

well im with court on this one...where else in the world can u find ex owners with such passion....nowhere,,,,,i guess owning a buell changed my perspective on motorcycles...seems how ive been riding for over 30 years...well that in itself is kinda huge...i think everybody should own a buell once at least...i dont agree with everything said here and well i just dont like the new bike...but damn erik changed me and for that his bikes will always have my respect.

Yeah, but look at how many new owners got on the ship. A simple way to compare the numbers between the two, is to look at the board count. The "old school" section has a mere 38K posts while the XB section has nearly a quarter MILLION. The XB line paid off and was a success.

I agree. When I moved to Tulsa (metro of ~700K) there were hardly any Buells running around. In fact, I was usually the ONLY one at most of the "Bike Nights" and was know as the "Buell Guy". Well, over the past year or so, the numbers of Buells running the streets has increased 10 fold. I am no longer the lone Buell ranger. Many of my import riding buddies have taken notice and indicate their NEXT bike will be a Buell, especially since the 1125R came out.

I gotta say that I appreciate the avoidance of definite proclamations in a negative viewpoint. Qualifiers like "I feel as if the bike..." indicate some level of thoughtfullness and humility and that makes a world of difference to how I personally perceive negative and/or critical commentary.

Unfortunately some folks are so unbelievably arrogant--some may be intentionally trolling, the abode of the lame--that they feel perfectly fine stating in the most unequivocal/absolutist fashion even the most brutally negative, derisive opinions. Those types are the ones that are unwelcome.

I like your mods. I agree it does weight the bike better in the rear. I'm sure the aftermarket will offer several monoposto variants. I can't wait to see what the aftermarket does for this bike. Imagine all the appearance and go fast goodies that will be available.

I also agree on the color. I believe the current color scheme should be called "bruise".

I'm getting a kick out of everybody who thinks their opinion is the only right one or the only one that matters to anybody else. Or that something really DOES look good or bad just because THEY say so!
I've already made up my mind about it and the only people THAT matters to are BMC and me.
It already appears that the bike is headed to being a sales hit here in the US and if that continues it will be good enough to take Buell to the next step and that is all that matters for now. If it takes a different style to wow Europe or others here then maybe 2010 will be their year.

Funny thing about motorcycles. . . you cant see what they look like while you are riding them. Every now and then, while approaching my firebolt in a parking lot, I am taken back by what a sexxy machine it is. I spend more time riding it than looking at it so sometimes I forget.
I like the way the 1125r looks, but if it rides as well as people are saying, it doesnt really matter. Maybe if a motorcycle is REALLY ugly, it will make you ride it more so you dont have to look at it.

Believe it or not, I really don't care for the looks of my Uly that much. I wish the front fairing were more like the S. Little by little, I'm turning it into a Super SS.

That said, I don't think about it much after I have climbed on and "turned out the lights".

None of the other Buell models would really fit me the same as the Uly and it's MUCH better looking and fun than:

I picked the one that was the most fun and the least unattractive.

I think there are many who are slightly negative or on the fence as to the looks who will be won over after the test ride.

And there is no reason for some of that look either - the side bodywork is just plastic skirts - one side has some electronic components behind the sheath - the other is vacant real estate.

Pots pointing the wrong way, well they work orrright.

But would you hacksaw the bodywork on a $NZ30K test bike!

If I may chime in.....All of these harsh reactions to negative opinions about the 1125 read to me as if some of us have forgotten about the all too common "Buell Hater Syndrome". Well, for those of you that may be getting torqued over it, I have three words for you.....

REMEMBER...BIKE...NIGHT

Remember your bike nights being inundated with the involuntary duty of answering the same old question ump-teen million times, trying to explain to naysayers why you chose to ride a Buell?
Remember the idiotic dismissal of the brand based upon HP ratings and non-conformist styling?
Remember, "Well, why dont the Rossi's and Stoner's (hee hee) of the industry ride it if its such a great bike?"

I do. In fact, I STILL hear it everytime I attend a rice night (I mean BIKE night) Its the same old crap ALL over again....And I welcome it! It only strengthens the bond I feel with BMC because I know in my heart that I ride what I want, and for my own reasons. It suits MY needs and desires as if the bike were made just for me.
I dont let race replica graphics kits, lofty HP numbers (of which I'll never fully use anyway), or the general consensus of whats "cool" influence the assertion of my freedom of choice.
IMHO....my bike (2000 M2) and BMC product is the coolest thing on two wheels and no amount of biased banter will ever change that.

Now, coming to a Buell site to badmouth Buell can be viewed as looking for a fight or simply stating an opinion. Although it may not be a popular one, it is valid because it is that of another's thought process/reasoning/experience and it provokes us to further OUR thought. We need the opposing viewpoint to correct what truly needs fixing, or to strengthen our position by reaffirming our convictions.

Naysayers such as yourself foster and forge our solidarity. We are a clan and we will defend our own, so expect nothing less.

Tenaciously defending BMC shows loyalty to and trust in the brand we have chosen to ride so proudly- and GOOD FOR US. It means that we are a part of something bigger that actually recognizes us as an integral part of the entire works. We are VERY lucky to have that and we have full realization of it.

Im a Bueller, and youre a Bueller...and we both know why. Nuff said.

The problem I have with this is one fails to evaluate the product without placing ones emotions into the equation. It's great to feel such affinity to a manufacturer of a performance \ recreational vehicle but the wider truth is, it's a pretty romantic view which only serves to bite you on the arse when things go wrong. And they can, and do.

Where the 1125 is concerned right now, because it's a new to the market motorcycle which very few have ridden, my primary focus is based on what I can see. Yes that is an emotion based thought to some degree, but not one that lacks experience. We all know what a motorcycle should look like. We all know how different styling appeals to some and not others. We are all aware that strikingly bold new designs in motorcycles grab gobs of attention, often leading to people wanting ownership on looks alone, but these motorcycles grab such attention because they are fantastic designs. As if any proof were necessary of such pandering, we only need look at the demand for classic and contemporary designs, be they a set of Louis Vuitton suitcases, a pair of Christian Dior sunglasses or a set of Cole & Mason salt and pepper shakers, and so it is with motorcycles, just like anything else. We can all look at a Ferrari 250 Lusso and not one person on the planet could fail to see its stunning beauty and appeal. The same is true of a Vincent Black Shadow. However, I'm of the opinion that the 1125r is so left field it is not a classic or contemporary design. Worse still, it is nowhere near as attractive as some of Buells previous offerings. That Buell have or had an opportunity to stun the motorcycling world with a new motorcycle bearing the fruits of a new modern state of the art engine, but didn't, well I feel let down once again by a motorcycle company I too felt much emotion for once upon a time. I don't believe I'm on my own in such thoughts either. Sadly, I see the 1125r as not the bike that the Buell fans really want, but more of a bike that Buell are making you believe this is the bike you want. Put simply, it falls short of the mark when we talk primarily of how great it should look, but it won't matter because looks are only skin deep. That's great if it were your partner, lover or wife \ husband, but it is nothing more than a motorcycle and as such looks do count. Having an ugly bird in your bed is one thing, but who wants to be seen on an ugly motorcycle? Not me.
