I went to the local auto parts store and bought one of those white letter tire pens.
The paint on the front tire looks good, but the paint on the rear tends to flake off after only a few miles.
Does anyone know why?
Also, is there a product out there to get the job done better?
There's a local car show coming at the end of the month, (James Dean Days), and I'm planning on taking the bike over there to meet up with some school buddies and I want Buella to look her best.

The rear paint shows more wear because the exhaust is being blown on it, and the rear tire takes alot more radial and axial abuse then the front.
I bought my tire pens online, can't remember where though, if my 40 year old brain can recall I'll let you know. Bright yellow paint pen type of thing that works great. Haven't had to redo the front yet and have done the rear 3 times in 2000 miles.
I have heard that vinyl paint like marhyde works but I haven't tried it.

I bought a yellow tire paint pen through my local Buell dealer. It's actually a Harley part. I think they had them in black and orange too.
I've got about 3000 miles on them with the yellow and just touched up both the front and rear. They didn't crack or anything, just looked a little dull from the road grime. I would recommend the ones through Harley anyday.

Rob,

I don't get over here on BadWeb much anymore but noticed your ref to James Dean Days. I work in Marion at Excel Auto Body and Glass and we've prolly seen each other on the streets. Stop by and introduce yourself... I'm shooting a calendar right now and have been looking for a Buell to photograph.

Jb2, I'd be more than happy to let you shoot some pics of my bike.
I'll PM you and we'll have to meet up.
