It started on Friday. Erik Boos called me to tell me that the shop he works for had an '08 Uly come in, and I should come down and look at it. So, Terri and I jumped on our bikes and rode down to Sheldon's. I liked the Uly. Terri sat on it and noted that the Uly was still too tall for her. The TT was also too tall, but it was almost low enough. We discussed a few ideas, and figured we'd do some investigation.
So today, we went up to Manchester, where they have a larger assortment of Buells. Terri REALLY liked the Ss. We talked with the saleswoman for a few minutes then left. Then we went up to Meredith, where they have a TT that has a Lightning Long seat and passenger pegs instead of those silly number plates. After she sat on it, her mind is made up. She wants an Ss with Uly bars and hard bags. Manchester has the bike (an '07) and is willing to be "A bit aggressive with the price". Neither Sheldon's nor Meredith have one. Or, we could wait and get an '08 With the engine improvements and the new fuel injection.
I think that deciding which one would be the better way to go is called a Quality Problem.
Anyway, when we got to Manchester, we only had to stand in front of the Buells for five minutes before someone came over to talk with us. At Meredith, after ten minutes, I went into the Sales Manager's Office and asked if we could sit on the Buells. (There was a sign on the seat that said to ask for assistance) They told us yes, and we did. Neither person came out to talk with us about the bikes at all. I bet they sell a lot of Buells.

Crusty, is't that sad because salesman are paid on commission and they don't even bother to come and say hello? Whenever I enter the dealership I purchased my Ulysses from, (Ukes in Kenosha), the door hasn't even closed behind me before someone from the clothes counter says hello to me. As I walk through the dealership, every salesman acknowledges me and always asks how I'm doing. And they all know that I'm very happy with my motorcycle and that I'm not going to be purchasing a new motorcycle anytime soon, but that's just the way they do business. I visit Ukes on a weekly basis, just to look and sit on all the new motorcycles. I do miss that the deli isn't open anymore, the cook went back to college.

Two weeks ago on my day off, I rode to Hal's in New Berlin and was very impressed with their selection of buells and clothing. I purchased a pair of Buell pants and the lady at the counter was great! Very helpful and the rest of the staff acknowledged me as I walked through-out the showroom!

I'm very lucky to live in an area that has several dealers that actually support Buell and their products. And Appleton Wisconsin is just a 2-1/2 hour ride away if I need to visit Andy.

Crusty, is Terri still wanting the 2008 blue color Ulysses? I remember that she really liked the one at the factory.

Hey Crusty,
I thought you were going to do a Ulybolt for Terri or something similar. If you don't mind my opinion, I think you should do the '08. By the way, thanks to you and Terri for the letter to Kirk. He called me his "Hero" yesterday as he was leaving. I wasn't sure what he meant by that until I saw his email with a copy of the letter.
Thanks, again, for helping make this year's Homecoming a huge success and a whole lot of fun. It's because of folks like you and Terri that I am so passionate about this product!

Bud, actually I was looking for you while I was there, but didn't see you! I wanted to thank you for the reduced price on the ticket to Great Lakes Drag-way on Thursday night with the good food and bad your provided at your tent. I truly enjoyed it all! Thanks again!

Do you remember me? I was the guy on the black Ulysses that rode up to the ticket booth and you came running up and said that I was with your group and only charged me $5.00 for the ticket. Great deal your dealership provided.

Crusty and Terri--
I have th SS with the Uly Handlebars and I love the way it sits now. Wouldn't trade it for anything. The only problem was the darned cable kept getting in the way of the trip meter, etc...BUT the gadget you gave us at Homecoming 07 works great for keeping it out of the way. Now, I am like Terri. I am wanting the hard bags for mine too and am waiting patiently for a set that fits. That will make the bike perfect.

Bud C; we were planning to build a "Ulybolt" from a TT after seeing Steve Mackay's impressive bike, but...
First, we saw a TT that had the Ss seat on it. Then Terri sat on an Ss and absolutely Loved the bike; she just wants the bars to be a bit taller. And we heard that Hepco & Becker are now making mounts for the Lightning Long, which means that she can have hard bags. After a bit of discussion weighing the pros and cons, I think we'll wait and get an '08. I like the new motor and the new fuel injection.
Mrs 04buell; I showed your post to Terri. I think that was the final nail for her. It's looking like she'll be riding a Buell to Homecoming next year!

Crusty, you comments about Meredeth and Manchester are EXACTLY what we encountered two weeks ago during our New England trip. The salesman in the office at Meredeth looked at us several times as we both walked in. Toni with her Buell T-shirt on, and me with my Buell hat on. We had a guy from parts come up and talk with us after we were there for about 10 minute, and he heard us talking about the XBRR they have sitting up above the parts department. But the salesman just looked at us a couple of times from his 'lil booth in the center of the store.

I hope Mrs Crusty likes the SS. I agree about the bars on the SS being too low. It also makes the bike feel heavier than it really is IMHO.

Awesome decision! I ride mine to work or with the rest of the Harley Ladies and people gather round my Buell to OOH and AAH because its a unique machine around here. I am never sorry I made the decision to trade off the Harley for it. Plus with the new handlebars, it is much more comfortable to ride. Seems to me that I am sitting in a much more natural position and my back does not hurt the way it did on the other bike. I don't think she will be a bit sorry.

H&B makes the brackets, the bags are pelican cases, the seat is custom, and the Bars are from a Buell Blast (I didnt have to change the cables) Sorry I missed the HOmecoming party. Damn west coast commute.

Today, we ordered a 2008 Cherry Bomb Translucid XB12Ss Lightning Long. We probably won't get it for a few months, but that's O.K. Terri's pretty enthused(to put it very mildly). We're going to be a three Buell family! Is that cool, or what?

Well, it's official - today I ordered my bike! After 28+K miles on my Guzzi, I'll be trading it in for a 2008 Cherry Bomb XB12Ss. Opted to add the Uly bars, hand guards and heated grips while I was at it. Now we'll have 3 Buells in the garage. And of course this means that I'll be riding a Buell to Homecoming next July.

Now comes the hard part: Waiting for it to come in...

Terri:

That is wonderful! This Homecoming was kind of a neat chance for some of us, you and I, to play "sit on different bikes and see what you think". I think it's cool how you were able to nail down precisely the right Buell for you.

How soon are you getting it? I may have to make a run to MA and take a look. I hope you'll be riding it down here for our party on 9-22. . Erik would be thrilled to see you morphed from the Guzzi!

Ride safe, have fun and keep that old guy in line!

While it was cool to see your Moto Guzzi at homecoming, it will be even cooler to see you on a Buell next year!

I know you said you were going with the Uly bars, hand guards and heated grips. Were you going to switch to either
the touring or the sport seat? Or maybe even the Uly seat for that matter...

Bads1: You're on for those enchiladas! The last one was fabulous! Great hot sauces, too.

Court: Unfortunately, the bike isn't supposed to arrive until late Sept-Early Oct, but we're planning on being at Liberty on the 22nd (John's B-day) in either case. But, it would be way cool to have it for Liberty's party!

Brian: Like any Bueller, I've already got modifications in mind! But, I've decided to start with the stock seat and ride it for a while to see how it feels for long days in the saddle (as John and I are known for). Among the things on the top of the list for mod's is the luggage set up. I've done lots of miles with and without saddle bags, and I definitely prefer bags!
