I met up with my Dad in Billings on Tuesday. I went over to Beartooth Buell and for the first time in my Life I entered a Harley / Buell Dealer with Buells on the floor!!! I took a Demo ride on a XB12S and tried to get on the TT but it started raining. Got my messenger bag and hit the road. BIG THUMBS UP for Beartooth Harley / Buell!! We went Billings to Red Lodge MT, over the Beartooth Pass @ 11,000 ft and 22 degrees, down the Chief Joseph hwy to Cody Wy, and then into Yellowstone. We got up on day 2 and rode through the park then on day 3 again back over the pass, running into at least 2" of SNOW and temps around 15 degrees. With the exception of the snow it was my 3rd time on this exact route and by far the best ride of all time! YES THAT LAKE IS FROZEN! NOTICE THE GAS PRICES??? Behind the mirror it says Premium: $3.90 Last year a Bison gave me a good look and a hoof stomp or two when I got to close, this year a bear looked like he wanted the XB for lunch. I got off the bike and opened up the door of Explorer in front of me ready to jump in. Luckily the Explorer owner had no problem with my intrusion! Hey, who says the Firebolt cant hold its own in the mud?? What a ride!!! I'll be heading back through the first week in August. I'll be alone unless a Badweber joins me. Any up for the ride of a lifetime??? |

Forgot to mention, from Cody Wyoming over to West Yellowstone, was 135 miles. I Filled up with exactly 2.01 gallons. If my math is correct thats 67 MPG. On my XB thats some sort of record. Note: Outside if the park we probably averaged 50 MPH, in the park, around 40-45 MPH. |

Great pictures, great report and it brings back great memories! My last ride in the area was from Jackson to Gillette for the opening of a new Buell dealer. The 35 piece of 26 to the West of Riverton is one of the places in the USA I've been able to simply ride the Buell pinned wide open. As you head north from Shoshoni you parallel the river with the road right along side the river and canon walls on each side. Very awesome. On e of my funnier tales of breaking the luggage on a Buell occurred that day. After doing the entire Canyon run, I hooked up with a guy on a 929 who I met in a gas station in Worland. When we were at warp speed on 16 I look in the mirror to see the left bag bouncing about. I stopped and found that the metal plate "tab" welded on the luggage bracket had snapped right off. The tab was still attached to the latch pin on the bike. I took it off, looked at it, uttered a few choices words, wound up and prepared to skip it in the water of a creek. For some reason I didn't, stuck it in the pocket of the Raodcrafter, secured the bag with bungee cords and headed on to Gillette. The minute I get in Gillette they are putting up the new sign in front of the dealer and lo and behold there's a guy with a welding truck. I thought "can 't hurt to ask". I handed him the piece and the broken piece and frame matched up perfectly. I went in to get and leave water and came back to find the thing welded, shot with black paint, the bag back on and ready to go. Ya gotta love these things. I did my thing and the dealer and set out for Deadwood South Dakota to learn my first lesson in Hell's Angels etiquette the next day. . . . uh, the day before I got the two speeding tickets in 20 minutes in MN and tried to ride off on a Buell chained to a light pole at the Mall of America. Fun bikes. . .damn fun. Court |
