It's a sad fact of life that over the years we lose touch w/ friends - some of which we've shared great times. It's not willful, just that your life takes you one way, theirs another. Sometimes you bump into them at the bank or grocery store, relive a few memories and share some smiles, but the odds that you'll ever be able to have a relationship that comes close to what you once shared are slim to none - kids, work, location - some or all of these factors somehow get in the way.

Yesterday, my wife browsing the obituaries, noticed the name of one that we've lost touch with. He was killed on his Ducati when someone made a left turn in front of him on Occidental Rd. (that's in Sonoma County, CA for those not in the area) back in mid-March - just after his 40th birthday.

He was a good man, a very dynamic individual - kind and caring with a voracious appetite for life.

We are fortunate enough to have spotted the notice for his memorial. I look forward to having the opportunity to see his wife and catch up with her and the various people from that circle of friends. It's a shame that it takes this type of occurrence to drive us to make the trip and see some of those that meant so much to us at one point in our lives.

Don't know what I meant to accomplish with this thread. Just needed someplace to vent some emotion. I am deeply saddened to know that a very bright light has been extinguished.

We toasted to Bryon last night in absentia - I hope that I, nor any of you reading here, ever have to make such a toast again.

Wait until you do it a dozen or so times...It never gets any easier, but it's not as hard to swallow.

Unfortunatley the toasting of friends who have passed over the bar (nautical term) becomes more commonplace as we get older.

We lose friends in many different ways, illness, accidents, crime, and even suicide.

It isn't easy and doesn't get any easier. I find it an honor to salute a fallen friend, tell a couple of stories, and try to remember them for the good they had accomplished.

You showed that you are a caring person by sharing your grief with all on the board.

I tell ya the Irish say it best:
carry away his corpse to wake
wrap em up in nice clean sheet
a bottle a porter at his head
and a gallon a whiskey at his feet
Drink up me boyos one for the fallen

sorry to hear about your old friend. as long as were alive, we have to deal with death. whether it's out father, our brother inlaw, and uncle an aunt or just a friend. the older i get the more i wonder how i'm gonna be remembered. so by the way you talked, it looks like he will be rememberd by many. please give my condolence's to his family.
