i did a chain drive conversion a few weeks ago, in the process it required the replacement of a seal behind the front sprocket due to a different dia. spacer going in. i also had to put a quadring up in that piece as well. anyhoo since then on occaision i've noticed a little grease dripped on to the rear shock (99m2). i noticed bearings in there when i did the conversion, how do i repack that grease? do i need a new seal already? or is it that darn quad ring(the original oring seemed to make a better fit)?

i've decided to park the cycle until i can get a look at my service manual concerning this issue. also, i need a new front tire it's cracking along the rim on both sides . while i have the bike with the front wheel removed, i'm going to paint my fork lowers black (that's right i ride an m2!), and i'll paint the brace as well for good measure! going for that roadwarrior look for my lucretia!

I think that bearing goes right into the primary. There is some engine case around it, but I would not be suprised if it gets tranny fluid directly.

In fact, now that i think about it, I *know* it does, as mine popped out after a transmission repair, and I found out from the leaking fluid.

So pack it, thats a good idea, and put the seal back in. When I was having the problem, Aarron Wilson recommended a 3Bond adhesive to keep it from coming back out. I could not find it, and think I ended up just using RTV.

I agree with the decision to park it for the tire though. If it's cracking, it has lost significant traction as well.

thanks for the reply reep! i should've used some kind of sealant on that badboy and i did'nt! now i will, now that you mention it, unless a previous owner was in there before it must've come sealed from the factory cause it sure was a pain to get out! i'll have to check my primary level now too!

I kind of created my own problem there... I had a hard time getting it out, was not convinced that I would not need to pull it again someday, and so polished the mating surface on the cases before pressing it back in. Not so much removing material, just polishing.

Once I put on sealent, it was good and held fine.
