I just sat on a Uly for the first time today, even though I put a deposit on one a few weeks ago.

its too high. even with the preload adjusted, I can only get one foot flat on the ground. but that was with the bike leaned on the kickstand. otherwise I can't flat foot it.

I'm desperate! if i had children I would offer to sell them to get a seat!!!!

any info on where I can get one would be REALLY apreciated.

tx,

brane

Branebanger-
I believe DaveS said the low seat won't be available for another month or so. If you're really desperate, you could send your regular seat to Sargent (www.sargentcycle.com) in Jacksonville, FL. They do really nice work and could easily recontour the seat to lower it. Check the "custom seat work" section of their site; there's a link with prices for each option.

(All the standard disclaimers apply...)

While we're at it, how tall are you, what's your inseam measurement, and what's your shoe size? I'm just trying to gauge how the bike will fit me. I'm pretty sure I'll need a low seat too.

So, as far as the aftermarket goes for these bikes, what are the odds we might see:

- Shorter shock
- Under-seat/Side Exhaust
- Skid Plate

don't Hassle that flat-footedness lack. you don'tg need to put 'em down flat, epsecially on
a dualsport. (and please, don't anyone go on the inane tirade about it NOT being a dualsport..OK?)

Nice platform shoes ie. Gene Simmons Paul Stanley mantra should help just fine. Nice 3/4 leg protection and mean as hell looking. Only problem i see would be shifting.

Dunno, I wouldn't own a "street type bike" that I couldn't put at least one foot down. If the bike doesn't fit, you won't be happy. Wait untill you put hard bags on it, you'll never be able to swing your leg over. Wait until you take a sharp low speed turn on a hill, you'll end up having a nice looking frame when you drop it. I don't care want anyone says, if you can't get one foot down you're screwed.

Solution for the folks who have trouble mounting a bike with bags, or a tall bike, or a tall bike with bags.

1. From left side of bike with bike well-supported by kickstand...

2. Grab handlebars,

3. Place left foot on left foot-peg,

4. Stand up on left foot-peg,

5. Lean forward and down face-down near dash,

6. Swing right leg up and over bending it at the knee with toes pointing straight up if necessary to clear bags.

7. Land right foot on right foot-peg.

8. Stand/sit upright,

9. Figure it out from there as you wish.

Showed my Dad how to do this with his Gold Thing. Sure makes it easy to saddle up and ride. : )

With my 30" inseam, I can only flat foot my Uly on one side with a butt cheek slid off the seat. It just isn't a big deal to me, but I've been riding tall dirt bikes for a long time. I can't flat foot those either, and I need to kick start them. It will get a Corbin low seat soon enough, but in the meantime, I can live with it just fine.
YMMV.

thanks for all the replies.

I guess the only time i will really need 2 firm plants is when my passenger is getting on and off.

If I dont fall over in the dealer's parking lot after a few spins, I'll take her home.

If anyone does come accross a spare low seat in the next few days I'd really appreciate it.

therein lies the problem. If you can't flatfoot a bike it will be very hazardous to have a passenger attempt to mount the bike not to mention how are you going to get it up off the sidestand once you and a passenger are on?

Sit on bike with left foot down and braced leaning to the left, kick stand up.Have passenger mount from left and keep weight in line with you.Mounts and dismounts just need to be co-ordinated between rider and passenger.Take off--
I have to do this on my bikes now, never get both feet down flat footed ever. And like Al,I ride dirtbikes with seats that will give you nosebleeds.
Hope to see a Uly soon,Vallejo supposed to get one today.

I've been staring at the pics of the Uly since they went public, but man the pics don't do it justice. you really have to see it in person.

I'll wait to ride any passenger until I've ridden the bike for at least a few months and gotten used to it a bit - hopefully by then I'll get a low seat.

I just hope I don't fall over in the dealer's parking lot : D, well at least not while anyone's watching.

which reminds me, does the uly have a bank angle cut off switch? or will the wheel keep spinning if I dump it?

Well,I just saw the Uly in person. They were prepping a black one at Vallejo.I like the black!Sat on it and was ableto put left foot down with right on peg with just a tiny bit of hip off,was absolutely comfortable with it.I have a 29" inseam for reference. Can't wait for the demo rides.

FMJ, you'll not even think about the height, it'll be second nature to you from dirt biking.

There is ONE time that I really notice the height....backing up on level, or worse, uphill. Without being able to flat foot both sides, it is plenty easy to maintain balance, but not easy to provide backwards propulsion. When I'm in that situation, I hop off and push it. Pushing it from the side is easier than straddle pushiing on ANY bike, ANY size, but it does require the dismount and mount maneuver.

OTOH, I back the thing down my driveway hill for 20 feet between two tight cars daily. Toes only on both sides isn't an issue, unless you have to PUSH backwards with your feet.

There are three basic mounting procedures:
1) The kickstand down, step on peg like saddle stirrup, and climb over with your right leg.
2) Standing on ground, swing right leg up and over seat
3) Step right leg over Seat.

I've never had to do type 1 yet, but shorter people will use this technique. It generally doesn't work on my dirt bike because in the dirt, the kickstand will often sink in if you do this. So I'm not much used to this style. I saw Ferris mounting his mammoth FJR1300 this way all weekend at Springfast, seemed to work pretty well for him.

I'm too short to do type 3 comfortably on the Uly, but I'll do it on my other Buells. But it's not the usual way I mount anyway. Seems awkward to me.

So that leaves type 2, the leg swing. If you do it by swinging your whole leg over, it will be tough with a tail bag. But if you lean forward a little and fold your heel up to your butt as you swing your leg over, no worries. My dirt bike rear is taller than the front, so I naturally tuck my leg up when mounting because I then don't need to pivot my leg up as far, so I really don't have any issues getting on and off the bike.

Bbanger, try backing it up, and mounting it a few ways, while test riding it in the parking lot. If it passes those tests for you, you'll be fine with the other aspects of it (i.e., balancing at traffic lights and during passenger mounts, slow speed maneuvering with pivot foot down, etc)
