May I ask how much it costs? The reason I ask is because I want this done to my eyes as well but I have wait for prices to drop down into my range so I've been checking every few months or so. Last I heard it was about $1000 an eye. When it first came out a few years ago I think was $3000 an eye or more. |

It depends on where and who. I got mine done by a doctor who is one of only 100 doctors in the US that have done a one year intern on laser eye procedures. He was also trained by the guy that invented it. I got it done at www.furlongvision.com For custom lasik it was 2450 an eye. Expensive, yet you get what you pay for. I did a lot of research into the doctors in my area, and this guy came out on top. Tell you what though, they pump people right on through. He does surgery every friday, and the people are just coming through all day. Standard Lasik is less than 2K per eye. I'm sure it's cheaper from other doctors, but some things are worth the money! |

You are 1000% right. It is worth the money. I'm not trying to be thrifty, I'm just a paver (i.e. small wages) so it takes a long long time to save up for such things. Congrats on the killer vision! Thanks for the address, I'm gonna check that out. |

Last time I checked it was about $800 per eye (two years ago) and they would finance. I just went half way - traded glasses for contacts. Even that is a WONDERFUL change. I'm quite rather against glasses now and thinking on the lasik at some point. |

Does eye surgery improve reading vision? Some of us rely a lot on close-up work and having to put reading glasses on every few minutes is not fun. I dumped my contact lenses for eyeglasses with progressive lenses that give me the full gamut far to near. Nice. |

Prof, As you get older the presbyopia (sp) makes your eyes less able to focus close. I had RK surgery in '91 and need cheaters for close up. Varilux lenses are great. DBird |

Does lasiks work on those of us who have astigmatisms? I have 20/70 vision and I would really like it to be fixed. |

I had to have my initial contacts prescription backed off from 20/20 to 20/40 to maintain near vision. Works out well. |

Does lasiks work on those of us who have astigmatisms? I had lasiks done in Jan. And I had astigmatism. It wasn't a concern. I am very happy with the results. 20/20 Al |

As for close up reading. You have two options. For those over 40, and are starting to need reading glasses, they can do CK. Or you can get what is called monovision. Sounds crazy, but people get it done. It's when they zap one eye for distance, and one for close up. Your brain gets used to it, and it's not a concern. |
