NOTE: Can someone change the title to "PSA: Sidestand switch, acute failure" – my stupid browser auto-filled the most recent post title. Recently got bike back on road after replacing oil gear drive. Also cleaned up electrical connectors and it started easier/faster than ever before. Bike was running best it ever has and I was out in some quasi-twisties around blue hills (Boston area). I catch up w/ a group of about six 600ish sportbikes. I'm hanging with them easily, having some fun in the corners. Bike is running like a top. Then I pull up to stop sign and suddenly feel a weird bogging down, with power chopping intermittently as I try to accelerate away. It's especially noticeable with heavy throttle. Long story short, after pulling over and then slowly riding home, it's feeling similar to when my step Dad's X1 had a sidestand switch go. After another brief ride this morning I decided it really might be sidestand switch. I clipped the sensor wires and soldered them together. The issues immediately clear up and the bike runs beautifully again. If you're getting poor running/surging, you might want to try clipping the sidestand switch wires and tying them together – see if it helps. This leads me to my second PSA: don't forget to put your kickstand up  (Message edited by buellrobot on May 21, 2017) |
