Every warm start without the choke pulled I get a bad backfire through the carb. It has even melted my vacuum chamber slide. Any ideas what might be going on?

Have you checked the manifold seals are ok? & the rubber seal the CV seals to manifold is good? if they all check out what is the jetting you have in carb? sounds lean to me
