Anybody know how it actually works..as in...what "signal" does it send & how??

Any tests for the unit??

From what I can tell the "signal" does not go back to the ECM. looks like it goes back to the lamp only

4 wires enter the tank, 2 for the pump, 1gd & 1 to the sender.

I am trying to get the signal to the XB cluster on the X1 build everything else works great )

I am gutting the pump to fuel the carb, it would be great to have it work also.

Thanks
Chris

The single wire just provides the ground for the light. I'm not sure how the unit itself works. As far as testing it I imagine you could rig the setup with a container of fuel, but they are known to go bad. I would just put a new one in. I think they are 15 or 20 bucks. XB and tuber have identical looking sensors.

Is there a x reference to an over the counter part?

It seems like it has a filament inside that will ground out when submerged.

looking at an XB wire diagram, the wire does not exit the tank, "unless it is wrong".... but that could never happen, lol

Things I know:

It does indeed have a filament.
It acts as a heater upon a thermal resistor.
The gas cools the arrangement.
The type of bulb in the dash is critical to it working right. If the low fuel light is replaced with some other thing, the delicate balance will be screwed up and it won't work.
Or will always be lit or whatever.

My X1 sensor failed at 8000 miles and dealerships have had several attempts to fix it while it was under warranty, all failed.
I have no explanation for that as there are no moving parts and only one wire.
Needless to say, I just gave up and chose to fall back on my old zero the odometer every time I get gas routine.
