Is the S2T a one year only item?

Yep, 1996 only. Some '95 S2s were outfitted with the different "T" equipment as accessories (taller handlebars, 1" dropped footpeg mounts, lower fairings, and saddlebags with bracket). There were 1399 49 state S2s and I think 87 California S2s made in 1995, about 250 S2s and 500 S2Ts made in 1996.

In 1997 they replaced the S2 and S2T with the S3 and S3T.

Thanks for that info, I thought of another question.

Do the S2Ts command higher prices than an S2?

Thanks Again.

Yes but not much. It just depends on condition and if it has all the T equipment. The S2Ts also have a dark blue-gray frame and wheels whereas the S2s all have white frames.

There are very few in Canada so prices there are quite a bit more. That looks a little bit high but it also has quite a bit of extras. It has motorwork, most likely a Thunderstorm top end, noted by the lack of fin highlights, XB turn signals, Corbin seat, Rifle windshield, Buell tank bra, misc chrome pieces, and what looks to be a D&D or Supertrapp muffler. It's been repainted too though. So it's up to you. If you're looking for a near-stock rendention, it's certainly not for you as they can be had cheaper with patience. But given the extras and condition, the price doesn't seem too far off. Prices re all over the place though. It just depends on what sounds good to you.

No problem. You are, after all, looking for one of the greatest looking motorcycles ever built... But I "may" be a little biased ; ).

Phelan is correct. There were some 1995 S2s fully equipped as S2T models (including the decals). We bought two from the demo fleet after the Sturgis rally in 1995.
Even though the VIN designator and the MSO both defined the bikes as S2 models, I could understand someone claiming they have a 95 ST2.

sometimes the expensive bike in your "back-yard" really is the better/less expensive bike in the long run....

you get to see it, test ride it and pour over it with a fine toothed comb in person and really spend some time getting to know the owner while you kick the tires (so to speak).

for the sometimes cheaper bike that is too far to go grab you have to consider:

purchase price
shipping/transport price
cross border? import tax etc
the reality of what's really going on with the bike you just bought
risk, sometimes small, sometimes not so small.....

and then you come up with how good is the deal I am really looking at here locally.

you might find you have a winner sitting right there, even though the initial purchase price could seem high compared to other recent deals in the market.

I passed on a great deal a true fully loaded low miles S2T in my version of my back yard that I even test rode, and passed, then bought a roached S2 that I paid for twice because I had to replace the motor....

I still say... I should have bought that S2T!! not to mention the fact that after I passed on it someone did buy it and part it out on ebay within 48 hours of me passing on the bike....

the parts are still on ebay by the way...the stock colored S2t with the two tone blue pin-striping....

That's all true, however that bike is hardly in my back yard unfortunately, it's about 1200 miles away.

I saw a different pic of that.
It appears as if it's 2 piece, stock windshield and some sort of curved add on lip.
I don't know though.

I am almost positive the bike linked above is Hank's old bike. He kept his bikes meticulously clean. The windshield on the bike in the link is a rifle fairing. It is a single piece replacement windshield with a more vertical angle and much taller, like a HD windshield. The pic you saw elsewhere was when Hank and a stock windshield with a laminar lip installed on the end. The above does not have that setup.

I'm In Atlantic Canada and have never laid eyes on an S2 of any form here even though Privateers HD/Buell was a pretty significant dealer and Buell supporter by Canadian standards. S1, M2, etc are pretty easy to find with a few S3s around. I would love to have an S2T to go with my M2 and vintage Triumphs and have considered having one brought up from the states for some short term trips. If you want one, can afford the price, and it offers the features you want, then go get it and ride it. The biggest issue for me with that bike is the lack of proper Buell emblems and that darn HD sticker on the front.

Hank is, admittedly, a Harley guy...but he's also very into Buells, and one of the guys who just "does it right".

The silver, obviously, isn't a factory color...but paint and stickers? If that's all you don't like, it is easy enough to change. This site, and its members, are an excellent resource for folks who want to return their motorcycle to original specs.

I'm going to have to go back through my 1995 files and seem what the chronology was. I found 7 cases of old bodywork yesterday, some of it the prototype (done in 1994) when we started playing with the "T" idea.

The fairing lowers show signs are some handled reinforcing. I'm also, today, sorting through all these cases of bags, bag parts and so forth and trying to tax my aging memory as to what was going on at the time. Doug was playing with various latch designs and I'm not sure which of these are commercial and which are proto.

Found something else yesterday, actually in a case of S2 Thunderbolt shirts that never went to retail, and it was the original idea for fairing bags. Still had all my TT (testing and touring" road supplies in them. It was the gray color but with no logos of any sort.

I'm spending the day just cleaning this stuff up and repacking in some sort of reasonable order. I'm eager to see what I find about the 1995 S2T.

There was some stuff that went to Canada, due to Trev Deeley's arrangement, that may not have made it to America.

The first thing I'd do with that S2 is get the goofy HD sticker off the front. That always make me think about when HD ordered all signs of HD off the Buells . . . there were, after that, only 2 places HD occurred. They got off the instruments pretty quick and HD insisted all the HD medallions get trashed and replaced.

They tried to find and destroy all of them but, again working from memory here, I think I put pics of both in the book. I had a box of them somewhere and it'd be cool if I wander on to it. Found a brand spanking new 1995, still in bubble wrap, white coil spring shock yesterday. Still looking for the shoebox of decals . . may have given them to one of the kids who is helping me . . his son collects stickers.

This has been a frustrating weekend . . the idea was to get rid of stuff and we keep finding more.

By the way . . that is a BUELL BROTHERS sticker on the back . . . the bike may have been built or sold by Roger before he came to HD.

If I find a BUELL BROTHERS t-shirt I'll post a photo.

No tank covers . . . but some amazing old posters today . . some carbon fiber (prototype S1 fly screen) and cases of paperwork, photos and all sorts of junque.

Joe . . you're just a chip shot away . . . . I may take you up on that sometime . . . I am completely out of room and may end up needing help sort all this.

My first goal . . which will take at least 6 months . . is just to segregate Buell stuff. There are many, many cases of stuff.

Don't tempt me...filled up my Ram today...mixed duty towing/loaded/empty, all up and down mountains...19mpg. Not bad for a 3/4 ton diesel pickup, 14 years old with 225k miles...it's got fresh oil...good tires...I can roll at a moment's notice ; )

You just let me know. If nothing else, it could be Canfield Storage (South), down here in MD : )

Court,
The decals look like they're for an S2 - at least the "slanted" one appears to be the front fairing decal.

Kinda nice to see a Buell Brothers decal. Pretty sure I met Hank at at the Buell display in Rapid City (Sturgis 2008). Good guy - good conversation.
Claus also made a trip to MB chasing down S2 parts a year or two ago. Decal may have come from either of us.
