Gotta replace the stator. While I've got the primary side open, I figure I should upgrade the oil-pump gear. (Thought I had done it years ago, then I found the new one sitting on my workbench. Its a messy bench.) Chose the rear rockers to relieve valve spring pressure and one of the rockerbox bolts comes out with the threads. So now I have to remove the head to helicoil it. So now I'm thinking I should search up some better heads. Anyone got some Thunderstorms or S1 Lightning heads for cheap?

Don't bother with Lighning heads. They are the same ports and valves as your stock 1200 heads, with just more material in the combustion chamber to get 10:1 compression. If you go with Tstorm heads, you'll want the matching pistons to get the 10:1 CR as they only yield about 9:1 with flat tops.

And then as long as you're bumping compression a new set of cams might be in order. And as long as you have the cover off I'd trim it, the stock sporter cover is butt uggly!

Got any more money you need spent?

Just messing around but I do agree with Phelan.

With all those mods, then you'll need a 2-1/2" collector exhaust system (instead of 2"). Otherwise you wont be matched up with the additional flow rate of the new heads and cam. But then you'll need lower restriction air filter and rejetted/bigger carb to feed more more air and go juice through those heads and exhaust. But then you'll also need the recurved ignition advance module from an S1W, to properly light the air/fuel charge off. But then don't forget the... : )

I'm waiting to see how the rods feel.

Already have the cams. And Thunderstorm heads and pistons, but buggered up by the machinist so I can't set squish. Long story. Just need to start again on the heads.

And I have S1 heads on the Sportster, modified to work with T storm pistons. I'm very pleased with the result and would do it again if some relatively valueless S1 heads came into my possession.

Eric, any pics of the buggered T-storms? Dan may be able to weld and repair them and cut a new squish. He's repaired quite a few heads here at the shop.

Oh ho, Ross. I forgot you'd moved north. Hope that's going well. You'll be able to experience this white stuff we call snow soon.

I suspect the cost to repair the heads would be the same as the cost to just get another set. I'll take a pic when I get that far, though.

So many projects and so little time.
