So I spent some time talking with Kevin over at KD Fabrication, you may know it as Drummer Exhausts, about a new exhaust pipe I wanted for my M2.

I was a fan of the old KT Components pipe that is no longer available.

However I wanted to utilize the stock header currently on my bike. No sense in recreating pipes that I already have. I also wanted the look of a straight pipe, but with an interchangable baffle that I could adjust to suit my volume and tone desires. My Dad had a nice Sportster with the Vance and Hince Short shots that had such a nice crackle to it. I was never able to get that sound using current slip-ons available and I was not a huge fan of the Force Pipe.

So here is what we cam up with...

Seeing as it is -18 degrees below zero I won't be putting th pipe on anytime soon. However, I am looking forward to installing it soon along with a set of orange rims I was able to aquire late in 2013. Kevin also gave me some great tuning tips on how to set the carb up, that guy is awesome to work with! Should be a fun riding season in 2014!!!

As stated above I got the pipe from Kevin, the owner of Drummer Racing Products

You can contact him about pricing.

As for sound clips, you will have to wait a few months. I am in the process of freezing my tail off, but I plan to put it together in a few months along with a few other upgrades to my beloved 2002 M2

A little more explanation about the pipe.

When I was forming this in my head I looked at all the different slip-on pipes I have used. I had 2 WileyCo pipes, the old and new design. The old one broke at the front mount. The new one broke where the can slips onto the elbow. I figured for reliability a lightweight one piece design would be nice. After the second one broke I retained the elbow and actually used a $17 automotive Glasspack. At first it was too muted for my taste. I ened up installing a stright pipe inside, which improved the sound, but it was still kinda hidious looking and heavy leading to vibration.

Also I noticed that WileyCo utilized a reducer right off the header to go from 2.5" down to 2". This pipe is 2.5" with a custom built baffle that reduces it to 2" internally. The weight on this pipe is extremely light even though it is 100% stainless.

Hey, great ideas.
Here's something described as "tune-able", similar for Sportsters:

My M2 had a straight pipe on it when I bought it. If you've ever been to the V8 Midget races then you know what it sounded like. It was fun, but literally hurt my ears and not sure it was good PR. I went to a V&H thanks to some kind Badwebber and gained a few HP according to the butt dyno. I'd still like to have a straight pipe with a perforated diaphragm in the end and a spring release bypass
