Has anybody got any examples of fabricating thier own body parts? Probably more like modifying the stock parts. ie. seat base to accept a wider seat, fairing, tail section adapting it for bags. I think I would even swap tails with an S1.

I was looking into fabricating an under seat tray for my S1 this winter. My plan was to make the mold from foam. My understanding is that fiberglass is fairly easy medium.

RT,

I'm looking for some way to make my X1 more comfortable (wider seat) and get rid of the backseat. Any ideas other than trying to make my own tail section?

Jeff, The tail section shown in my previous posts is a stock S2 part, I just added the cowl behind the seat. I shortened a stock S2 seat to fit in front of the cowl; it didn't get any wider or more comfortable.

If you make your own tail section and it doesn't use the stock seat, you'll have to have a custom seat made up. I'm guessing that'll run several hundred bucks, which is out of my price range.

You might get better comfort with an aftermarket seat like a Corbin. That won't get rid of the backseat, but their "Gunfighter" models have a contour that makes it look like a solo seat:

Try this link to their site:

Not to plug their stuff, but I've got several of their seats and they're all top-notch. However, their customer service would have to improve to suck.

So does that mean right now they just blow?

RT,

I've heard mixed opinions about the gunfighter and wanted to get some more info b4 I dropped 379 of my hard earned american dollars on a seat. It does look nice.

I called AIr Tech. The only thing that they make for the 00 X1 is an under seat pan. They make some nice looking pieces for the S1. Too bad they won;t fit.

How about putting an M2 or S3 tail section on an X1? Have you tried that?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, no, I haven't tried anything on an X1. Those seats look pretty comfy to me just as they came from Buell. Of course, my frame of reference is skewed (S1 and S2).

Jeff

putting an M2 or S3 tailsection and seat on an X1 would entail fabricating a new frame to accept the tail section -- that's the bad news

the good news is that X1 tail sections bolt on (and, therefore, off) . . . . .

sounds like a great deal of effort, with absolutely no reason to expect a good result, but some of us thrive on that kinda thing ;-}

That bolt on/off function would lend well to fab a subframe. Then pick any other make's tail section and fit away

I see where Air Tech makes some nice pieces for the late 90s S1. How much difference is there in the tail section of an X1 and and S1? Maybe I could have someone fab a tailsection that would fit on my X1 and work with an Air Tech S1 tail piece.

Why can't this be simple?

Thanks for the help/sarcasm/input.
