Just wanted to document something...

2001 S3T
-Race A/C
-Race ECM
-Supertrapp Exhaust
-76K miles

An XB9 rider was scheduled to come by Saturday morning to trouble shoot his ECM Spy cable.

I don't fiddle with that very often, so got out my old Windows XP laptop fired it up, and got ECM spy running. Hooked it up to my S3T and decided to reset TPS, no problems. I went back to the overview screen and noticed that my AFV was 133. I've never messed with that so thought I'd go ahead and reset it to 100.

Now my idle is much smoother, acceleration when engine is still cool is smooth, hesitation below 3000 rpm is gone. After a ride of about 100 miles, the AFV has settled at 104. I guess that's good?

Learn something everyday.

btw, the XB9 owner had a bad cable. We did reset his TPS with my cable and software.

Nice, thanks for the documentation. I have a 99' S3, 26K miles with race ECM intake and exhaust. Set the TPS years ago when ECM installed. Now due to continuing issues may need to get ECM spy and try the same thing you have done, reset TPS and check AFV. BTW what is AFV? These acronyms confound me. How does a guy get ECM spy. Their website was over my head and I didn't see any hardware. I do have an old PC with XP.

AFV - Adaptive Fuel Value. The ECM has the ability to 'learn' what the current air density is, and adjusts the fuel flow across the RPM range. For example, you are riding around Leadville Co in 90deg temps. between the altitude and the temp, the air density is low, so the AFV will go down, to 90 (just picking numbers out of the air). You then go to a sea level area with a 40deg temp. The air density is now higher, so the AFV climbs to 110. It does take about 20-30mins of cruising at a steady speed for the ECM to learn.

Check with Al at American Sport Bike in the sponsor section for the program and hardware you are looking for.

Thanks a million Dave! Itch'n to get on the Buell after too long in diagnosis department. When getting other parts, I guess I didn't see that American Sport Bike had spy, and now I know what AFV is.
