I know I've posted a lot pretty recently about silly little things that aren't all that big of problems, but it is all in the spirit of bringing a *rough* project back to its prior glory. When I bought my '00 x1 last year it was bellowing oil everywhere with shoddy fixes all over it - I thought it was going to be a nightmare of work with no end in sight. But with your guys' help I can say the light at the end of the tunnel is very close for this tuber. Throwing up a goal/to-do list (in no particular order):

> replace/rebuild rear shock
> re-do brakes
> find a way to stop the primary drain plug/shifter seal leaks...
> find and fix the remaining squeaks/rattles
> acquire ecmspy
> get it running purrrfect
> ditch the license plate bracket/mailbox
> rebuild front forks
> re-spray?
> ride the absolute sh*t outta it

thoughts/comments welcome. Thanks again guys I'm glad to say that I am a part of this amazing community!

Primary drain leak and shifter link have one thing in common...both have o-rings that probably need to be new again.

If the rattle you refer to is the front brake, keep the idle around 1k. The original rotor rattles quite a bit.

I wish the new o-rings would've stopped it.. The shifter seal leak is slow enough that I can deal with it for now but that gosh darn drain plug still puts out a considerable amount of oil after every ride. Maybe a new bolt? I covered it in about as much blue 242 as the threads could hold before I put it back in. There's an occasional squeak I almost wanna say is coming from the front sprocket? I know my belt might be a little on the tighter side.. The rattle sticks around until about 4k and disappears when I pull the clutch or am stopped. Probably could be the rotor or maybe a retaining clip came undone on the headlamp when I fixed the cone reflector that fell off. Anywho. Lots of things to keep me occupied this next month. If I'm still alive after finals next week..

Wolk... Are you ABSOLUTELY, Positively sure its from the Transmission drain plug?


My money is on leaky case halfs.... could be time to split the cases and apply new threebond 1211.

Long shot, but the oil on the bottom may be coming from the primary chain tensioner.

Now, stop reading these threads and get back to studying

All my drain plugs have crush washers on them...single use, but dry.

Loosen that belt before you wreck the bearings on that front pulley (final drive output sorta type thing), squeaky noises will change to crunchy grinding noises if belt is run too tight for too long.

well found the squeak - turned out the bolt that holds on the exhaust up front by the voltage regulator ate through its bearing/vibration dampener and was rubbing against the bracket.. not all too exciting but glad it's nothing major. hopefully going to get to work on the brakes this weekend.

If you're not a standard FAA human for weight & balance calculations, get a set of Race Tech fork springs that are the appropriate tension for your weight. Race Tech will rebuild your shock for a reasonable cost if you don't have the scratch for a WORKS or Penske. They will set the shock up for your riding style. I think the Gold Valve kit was a worthwhile extra.
