Does anyone know the part# for the engine temp sensor aka head temp sensor for a 99 S3? Also, is there a cross reference to the same part that I can purchase at an auto parts store? |

Something that mess'es with the HEAD TEMPERATURE SENSOR is the IGNITION TIMING being either a little TOO SLOW or TOO FAST (where the timing is set by static timing)which creates more than normal HEAT ... |

Why would you start an entirely NEW THREAD to address your ETS issue? We have given you what you asked for in this thread... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/669579.html?1335144232

32564-99YB original was YA but superseded by the B version. Incidentally all the air cooled motors (tuber/xb) use the same part. Here another thread in the KV about it: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/558210.html?1334910498 I'm attempting to locate the part from another source outside HD et al. Drag Specialties says it's a dealer only part, this is probably why they can change from the original price of $35 to $80. They seem to have us over a barrel on this one. Buellistic, I concur. I've been wondering if I have enough time in my schedule to volunteer for the job here in the old school, but am not certain what my schedule will give. |

Thanks for the help. It obviously is not available at an auto parts store. I searched Old School, Knowledge Vault, all of BadWeb, with every combination of terms I could think of to try to find the part# and or cross reference part. Wasn't successful, so I thought I'd post the question on a new thread. I knew I'd get the answer. I really appreciate everyones help! |

Has anyone take it into a parts store who is willing to look for it? NAPA won't even try to look stuff up for me, but the O'Reilly's will and I got my XB fuel filter and pressure reg o-rings from them. Buell/HD part numbers are frequently a reference for the dealer, not the number for parts sourced to other vehicles as well. I'm tired of being at the HD's mercy for parts that may require a little effort to find, but may be available through many other parts retailers or wholesalers. Wheel bearings, fuel filters, o-rings, fasteners... |

"I'm tired of being at the HD's mercy for parts." This is why I posted this question. I also refuse to pay $85/hr anymore to have HD do the simplest of tasks! If I can do it myself and find the part at 1/2 the price or less, then I will. Chances are this part is not exclusive to HD, so I may be headed to NAPA, O'Reilly, Advance, and AZone w/the part. If I find it, I promise not to keep it a secret. |

Just called HD and the part# 32564-99YB above came up obsolete. However, the computer referred the parts guy to this number-P1278.K and it's $80. I will be attempting to find it somewhere else. It'll be tomorrow at the earliest that I can do any leg work on it. |

I ordered mine & the tool from American Sport Bike because I want to support a vendor that supports us. Aside from that, I've been thinking of using the plug & wire from the old sensor to make a "get me home safer", bailout harness. I figure a 300 - 400 ohm resistor to ground should do the trick... |

I'm going to take mine off the bike and take it to my local NAPA store. I went in there a month or so ago to get a rear brake light bulb. The oldest guy in there waited on me, asked what it came out of and I said a 99 Buell S3 Thunderbolt motorcycle. He looked at me funny and then said it was out of a 1970s something Mercedes SL, spouted out the part#, then walked over to where the bulbs were and handed me a 2 pack. Perfect fit! Never even looked in a parts book or on the computer. I figure he'll know exactly what it is, who made it, and if it's available or not, that is if he's ever seen it before. I agree w/supporting American Sport Bike and already have by purchasing front and rear ISOs and a few other odd pieces; I have a rather long list of things on my wish list that I want and will need from American Sport Bike over time, so I'll be showing my support. I'm not going to quibble over a few bucks, but when it comes down to $20-40 or more in savings and I don't have to pay shipping, I'm going to get it at a local parts store when available. Recently bought an O2 sensor for $19 ($32 on American Sport Bike) no shipping and had it in hand within minutes of paying for it online. That leaves me more money to buy things I want from American Sport Bike that I can't get anywhere else. |

Yeah, I get what you're saying about the cash for sure... Make sure any sensor you get has the right threads & the same resistance values for a given temp. You can find those numbers in the owners manual. If not, the ECM is going to make fueling changes based on incorrect temp readings & you're screwed. |
