Author Message   Nakkers Posted on Thursday, March 15, 2012 - 10:38 pm:        Complete stock 1999, S3T. Looking to swap out the exhaust and airbox. I'm OK with looking for the parts but, wouldn't mind if someone could point me in the right direction. Google is my friend but, this place looks to be a little more informed. If I swap out the exhaust and airbox for something like a forcewinder, will I have to do something with the fuel injection? Sorry folks, this is my first FI bike. Also, the boomerang shifter is loose. Is there a part number for the bushing. The actual boomerang is in fine shape. The rubber bushing just seems spent. For reasons outside my control, I can't get the manuals for another week or so and the weather has been exceptional so, I'm out riding now and want to get things ready for the season. And the poor Showa has marked it's spot on the driveway. I've got a line on a replacement. I'm not familiar with wrenching on this machine. Anything I should prepare myself for, before rolling up my sleeves taking things apart? Any input is appreciated. Cheers. Sean   Two_seasons Posted on Friday, March 16, 2012 - 08:02 am:        Forcewinder. No adjustment needed. All boomerang shifters rattle around, probably just fine. The reason the Showa is going is the seal is flexed when the swingarm moves. Over time, leaker. Works or Penske don't do this. I would address the front forks if you have over 15,000 miles. Simple maintenance unless you see/hear something. Once you have the suspension dialed in, the ride is a dream. Also, there is a "New to Buell" thread in this section. Covers the saddlebags repair. Start slowly with the general maintenance using your manual. Shifts solid but, the rod does rest on against my leg which is fine. Function over form is best in my eyes but, wouldn't mind putting in another bushing to keep it a bit more upright and in position. Think the forks were just done and everything seems to be working out just fine in that regard. The friend who sold me the bike recently pasted away so, I'm waiting a bit before talking to his wife about getting the manual and other supporting bits he had set aside for me. I've done some pretty good rides so far. I'm torn a bit about the exhaust. For all the miles I'm putting on, it sure is nice, smooth and quiet. Just wish it had a little more bark around town. I'll probably stick a can on there and take it off after a longer tour but, I guess that's all just part of the game you play with toys. Cheers. Nice sound and mid range.
