This may be a dumb question but will a 86-90 4-Speed Sportster Flywheel fit in a 1999 S3 in a S3 .. If so what specifically do I need to make it work .. I got a good deal on this set of wheels and its all i need to get on the road  | ||

Not a dumb question, and I don't know the answer. I do know the 99 S3 has a lighter flywheel. If you were able to install the older heavy flywheels I wonder if it will give you back the low rpm tractor pulling feel of the S2. | ||

Might also reduce some vibes, I don't know the answer, but I would think they should be interchangable, might try the XL Forum. | ||

I'm pretty sure they altered the oil scraper of the cases to work with the thinner wheels. I don't think you can just slap it in there without cutting aluminum. | ||

not a dumb question at all, 4 speed flywheels were the same as the older 5 speed wheels, but, with the changes to the pressed together flywheels, it will not "bolt in" however where there is a will, there is a way, but at that point it no longer becomes a "good deal".... short answer, no | ||

It won't work because a 4-speed has a completely different left side shaft from a 5-speed (of any year). The pressed assembly came out in 2000 and it's very easy to put one of these into a 1999 motor if you find one. (Message edited by notblues2 on August 13, 2011) |
