Considering doing some size reduction on a stock M2 tail.

I've always felt the M2 tail section was visually too heavy and long for the bike. I like the stock seat and plan to keep it, but want to use the tail section to maintain the basic shape of the tail and hide some of the less attractive bits.

Seeking to reduce the length and take the bottom edge up to where I have a tail section border that is about 1.25" to 1.5" below the lower edge of the stock seat. Plan to remove the license plate holder and relocate a tail light to mount off the frame. Will relocate the license plate elsewhere.

Any pics of other modified tail projects?

Thanks.

Here is something I put together for the license plate/tail light relocation, it may give you some ideas.

I cut about 3 - 4" off of my tail, but I didn't keep the stock seat. I swapped it out for a Ducati Monster seat (slightly modified).

section.

Holy crap, Duc. I didn't think you were still around.

Good to see you posting.

If I don't keep the tail section, I'm considering having the stock seat modified and recovered to taper the rear end a little. I'd also plan on adding an upholstered rear cafe tail hump more like this:

I'm just working out how to hide all the "ugly bits".

I'm also working to remove the front fairing and relocate the gauges as well. My buddy is working to fab up a new gauge bracket.

I'm relocating the ignition key to the side like the older model M2s to clean up the wiring rat's nest up front.

I'm probably also going to relocate the license plate to the side as well. Considering threading the ID of the rear axle as a mounting point

Where did you relocate your ignition box?

I have the same breather. Looking at going with a brushed cam cover and primary cover as well as brushed swing arm.

Ya, I'm still here. I switch my focus from bikes to beer in the Winter. But I'm back now : )

I was lucky with the seat. There is a cut out underneath. I stuffed the fuse/relay/ignition electricals there. It works pretty well.

That is actually a little older pic of my bike. Since then I have polished the cam cover (its painted in this picture), polished the swingarm and converted to the XB rocker covers (yes, they are polished too). Thanks for getting me into polishing stuff Scott_In_NH!! HA!

Let me know how to do with your front wiring, I'd love some pointers of hiding that nest!

That seat is really cool, if you don't want to carry a passenger on the back you could hide a box in the hump for the ignition and fuses.
