This is technique I recently discovered. Remove baffle and tightly wrap the cage in stove rope from top to bottom and secure with wire at beginning and end. I will post the results when completed. |

He means fiberglass stove gasket rope. There's a thread on here showing it already; in that thread, the fiberglass stove gasket rope was then wrapped with basalt fiber matting, which has a hugely high thermal rating. The idea was not to have to repack ever again. More, from Sleez restoring his M2: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/444831.html (Message edited by fahren on March 27, 2011) |

Thanks for that. Now let me see about where to find basalt matting. Probably eBaY where I find everything else. Sure beats driving around all day hunting stuff nobody ever heard of. |

How true...I guess I don't have faith in the answerer to investigate my question thoroughly. And it seems I'm always chasing the unobtainable; or esoteric, or arcane. |

Fahren, good memory. i discovered this technique when researching different packing materials, there were a number of people who had used the rope in HD long touring mufflers, usually never having to repack!! i found the basalt material when i went to a local muffler manufacturer (Factory Pipe) to get some SS tubing and the engineer hooked me up. i haven't been able to locate it anywhere else, i have found a place in Australia and the UK, but not the USA!!?? |

I bought some Rush pipes for my wifes V Star 650. The guy had re packed them with stainless steel wool, and man they sound great. Its very nearly as loud as mine with the V & H Propipe needing baffles! STOVE ROPES http://shop.vitcas.com (Message edited by BrunaRibeiro on February 23, 2013) |
