Anyone here using any driving/fog lights on a S2 or S2T? I'd like to add some extra lighting on the front of the S2T i just picked up. Pics? Brands? Thoughts? Any help would be great. Thinking fork mounted under the front fairing area. Either inside or outside of the forks.

Ratbuell (Joe) has some mounted on his and I think Jack (jvv) was going to do something similar. I will let Joe tell you what he did but I think he mounted them under the fairing and they really work well. I do not know the brand but take a look at Walmart of an auto parts store to see what they have.

Yep, mine are PIAA 1100X model, with superwhite H3 bulbs (not white, not blue...kinda in between). WOW, love 'em. I drilled one hole per side on the bottom edge of the fairing (you can't see it if the lights aren't there - a requirement for me), and I use one bolt and one zip tie per light. The bolt fastens it to the fairing, obviously, and the zip tie is a backup / anti-vibration that cinches it to the fairing support leg so I don't crack the fiberglass.





I do have cheapo lights on the Uly, and have played with aux lights a lot on cars. One thing to keep in mind - expensive lights (PIAAs) do a much better job putting the light in the RIGHT place. Cheap lights can be effective...but they tend to just throw a TON of light down the road, not necessarily where you need it for good vision. My Uly has some lower-end Hellas on it, and while they can cook venison as it runs in front of me...it's kinda like putting a thumbtack in a bulletin board...with a 10 lb sledgehammer. But, when you buy a set of $50 lights, you get $50 optics.

Wiring is all the same - relay to the battery, switched lead (mine are wired to high beam, so when I go high beam the lights come on), and lights. They all have good diagrams in the packaging.

Thanks for the pics and ideas. Hadn't thought about mounting directly to the fairing. Not sure if I'm willing to drill holes in it like that. Thinking more of some form of mount to wrap around the upper parts of the forks, but like your idea in that the lights stay in line with the headlight rather than move with the front forks. Once I decide and commit I'll post pics. Again thanks!

It was a 'great debate' for me too...but I found a way/place I could drill a single hole in each side, and not be able to see it from either off the bike or from the seat (fairing bags help!). Once I figured out that I could do that...I went for it. Down the road, it would be an easy enough 'restoration' - patch the inside, fill the outside, sand and paint.
