A little history. A couple of months ago, the X1 sheared off the front motor mount bolts, leaving me stranded on the 405 between Santa Monica and Sherman Oaks. I had it towed to Bartel's in Marina Del Rey, and several hundred dollars later, they returned my bike back to me with new bolts and various other things I had them do while it was there. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I hopped off my bike in downtown LA to find my front motor mount cracked on the right side. Al at American Sport Bike told me they should have replaced the mount, because the now-twisted mount was doomed the moment the engine banged it against the frame. Not only that, they used the short bolts that only go about halfway down the threads in the head. So I got the billet mount, the long bolts, a hoist, and a jack and fixed it. Oh, and after scouring this site, I disconnected my 02 sensor and now the 3000rpm surge isn't doing its best to snap my primary chaing. This place rocks. So new intake seals, exhaust gaskets, and 02 sensor are on the way.. this wrenching becomes addictive.

If your X1 is FI, you can use ECM Spy to turn off the O2 sensor and disable the check engine light so you don't have unconnected plugs lying around and an annoying red light in your dash.
That's what I did and it works perfectly.

Babired, your other bolt snapping off isn't too far off in the future, if I was to guess. The stress put on the remaining bolt and twisting load put on the motor mount is brutal.

Thanks Dj I got the bolts ordered. I'm not doing much right now with the bike. I ride it down the street and back into the garage just to keep everything working/moving. I'll replace them all when it gets worked on. In a couple of months. I'm collecting parts for it now. K

Kathleen, DO NOT ride it anywhere with a broken Iso/head mount bolt until you do the proper repair!

Okay thanks for the warning. The previous owner said he had no idea when the first bolt broke off and probably rode it 1,000 miles or so. Tell me what damage can occur. I know the worst would be bolt breaking and engine dropping to the ground. And should I put a block underneath until I get it to the shop?

At best it will screw up the Iso mount to head surfaces which possibly would require removing the head to have the mating surfaces milled square.

Worse would be pulling the remaining bolts threads out of the head or cracking it which will require removing head then welding and re-machining.

No block needed if not running/vibrating.

No the worst is the bolt will crack the head on the mounting boss! And then you have it replaced or if you dare repaired.

well it will be hard not to ride it until I get it in the shop and then it will speed me up getting it to the shop! Just hearing the sound from the X1M is addicting. Thanks Guys K
