So I thought I read that a 190 will fit on the back of a 96 S1 with the factory style swingarm. Is this correct? Has anyone done it?
Thanks

i have a s1, with p.m rims, which are wider than the cast alloy, and they fit w/o a problem.

I've got a 180 on the back of my '96 S1 with PM rims. It fits fine, but is getting pretty close to the belt. Depending on the tire, I'm guessing a 190 isn't going to have much clearance.

PMs came stock with 180.

Castalloy came stock with 170.

I run a 180 on my Marchesini (same dimension as the castalloy) on my S2 with no issues, other than a permanent 1/4" chicken strip. That last 1/4", on a wider tire / skinnier rim...just can't get to it, at least without scraping bodywork lol.

When the S1 needs new shoes, it'll get a 180 as well just for availability/pricing. 180 is mainstream; 170's becoming an oddball these days.

I have a 190 on my PM wheeled S1. It pinches the profile in a bit and requires more effort to get a full lean. The center will wear quicker as well. I think it would work better on the track than street, as the side grip and stability at high lean angles seem a little better. If you have a 3/8" of belt clearance or more I think you'd be fine.

The front and rear will have the same size chicken strips so you'll have to work harder to rid yourself of them. With a 180 my front would have 1/2" chicken strips while the rear was worn completely to the edges.

Overall, if the 190 wasn't free, I'd be using a 180 instead.
