Put a few miles on the bike. Found some issues i want to address before they get to bad. 1)front rocker box is weeping. -I got a set of James Gaskets. -any tricks/words of advise for replacing? -everything came apart with no real hassles.... 2)I want to clean up/polish my header pipe. -Any tricks on how to get the header off? -I have it all loose...but can't get it to come out.Was so frustrated had to walk away from it.....? -Any tips for polishing it... 3)Whats everyone use to clean the engine area...?...has some 'grunge' from the rocker box and want to clean it all up. just want to be careful not to stain/fubar up the wrinkle paint finish.}}} |

I just had my header off last month. What a pain it was, that was until I figured how to move it to get the back pipe out. You have to remove the O2 sensor, then get the front free. Rotate the header till the collector is up as high as the air filter. It should come out once you move the pipe as far forward and down as you can. |

Joe, nice X1. When you get the pipe off, here's what I am doing to polish my S2's header. This route is SO much easier: Using a corded power drill with a "3M Scotch-Brite paint and varnish remover" bit. The bit is $7 @ Wal-Mart. It's taking two bits for me, no pun intended. This will leave "tiny" machine marks on the pipe, which you can sand off with 400 then 600 sandpaper. They're too small for my worries. After you're done with this step, thoroughly wipe and polish it with Mother's Aluminum and Metal polish. It comes out very nice. Look up my "Polishing my stock header" thread in the S2 section and you'll see what I mean. (Message edited by Phelan on April 12, 2009) |

A buddy of mine was saying normal steel wool and WD40 on a cold pipe. It will give it a gold anodized look. I haven't seen it done, but my roommate's going to do it on his XB. I'll let you know how it goes. |
