26.000 dollars for that bike? and how much would my XB worth? this dude has been tried to sell his bike for ever, but honestly, who's the crazy one willing to pay over 20G for this bike? he scanned the italian market for a while and now he posted it on ebay-america... there at the Tribu` 6800's forum (the Italian Buell rider's forum) we've been making so much fun of this guy and his economic requests!!! LOL good for him if he find somebody to buy that bike, but honestly, I strongly doubt he will find the crazy buyer! | ||

Its worth what a 99 buell is worth. Customizing doesn't bring a dollar to a bikes value. It may help it the older it get but thats about it. Parting it out will make more money. | ||

Most of that bike looks like Texalium fiber, which boils down to fancy woven fiberglass. It's woven like carbon fiber, but doesn't have the structural rigidy that CF does. You can get it in loads of colors, but I'll stick to the real deal (regular carbon fiber). A lot of interesting weaves of this stuff available raw or finished at compositeenvisions.com . | ||

Are there issues with the collar on the shock? I agree on a bike that expensive it should be replaced but what about a regular bike? Mine was fixed in the same manner. | ||

The only thing really custom on this bike is the body, and dual brake setup. Though the dual brakes can be done by anyone. Not worth any more than a pristine Tuber is worth. | ||

Capital_g . . . There has been a great deal of discussion over the years about the relative value, reliability, failure modes and aesthetics of the WP exposed spring shock (to 1998), the various Showa shocks and the several after market offerings. In my very subjective opinion it comes down to several factors; the use profile of the rider, the size of the rider, the extra loading (passengers and luggage) on the bike, and individual tolerances for quality issues. In my opinion, the early Showas that appeared as replacements for the WP shocks were inferior quality with known failure modes and design limitations. When they began failing, the "SRP clamshell bandaid" was offered as an interim fix to address the most critical failure symptoms (structural failures) on the early Showas. In a time long ago and far away the folks in East Troy/Juneau Ave allowed those who found the SRP to be insufficient to trade up to the new Showa - which was higher quality and was designed to a higher level of functionality on the Buells. With my weight, my use profile, my added luggage and passenger needs, my expectations for quality/reliability and my delicate aesthetic sensibilities . . .the SRP fails on all levels. I would not have another of those abortions on any Buell I own. Setting aside the SRP issue . . .the early Showa is still known as the "leaker" Showa, as a result of its persistent tendencies toward puking its fluids and turning the motorcycle into a pogo stick. My personal choice has been to use an aftermarket shock on my tubers . . .Penske being my personal favorite. I have also had good luck with having early WP exposed spring shocks rebuilt and currently have one on my 1996 S2T. Having laid out all this scathing criticism of the early Showa and its SRP, there are many (some?) who have had no problems with them. You may be hearing from some of these people here. For me, any bike with an SRP seems be a poster child for a warranty replacement gone wrong - an under achieving dealer service department - and/or an owner that did not have access to the current/best information when the whole fiasco was evolving. YMMV . . .always consider the source, hope this helps. Don | ||
