Is there a difference in handlebar height between a 2000 S3 and a S3T? I have an S3T and when comparing them to my friends S3 they look exactly the same. Shouldn't they be somewhat taller ? I'm not the original owner so I don't know if these are the original bars or not. I would like a more upright riding position, but it doesn't look as if the cables have enough slack in them to raise the bars any.

If the horn button just touches the tank letters when cranked all the way over to the left - you have the S3 bars.

If they clear easily then you have the S3T bars.

I believe the S3T bars are higher than the S3. I put a set of S3T bars on my S3 and they appear to be 1" to 1.5" higher. Not sure if they where standard on the S3T or just an option.

Scott,

The bottom of the horn button clears the tank by about 3/4". Is that about the same as yours Joe?
I'm pretty sure the sitting position is contributing to my Back / Neck issues and I don't want to get rid of the bike, but I need to find a way to make the bike more comfortable.

I don't remember having a problem with the controls and tank interference but the T bars are close to the top of the fairing opening at lock. The bike is in pieces and clamped in the lift so it will be awhile before I can answer the starter button question.

S3 bars part # N0002.K are the same bars as on an X1. 4" rise.

S3T bars part # N0002.M have 5-1/2" rise.

Bar to tank clearance is rider preference.

Ape Hangers pulled back far enough will make contact with the tank on any bike.

thanks for the info James, but the tank clearance was only listed as a tape measure free way of identifying which bars you have.

Do you happen to have all of the dimensions for the S3 bar?

I need them for a winter project on my bike (thanks).

S3 bars in the stock position contact the lettering with the horn switch just enough to beep the horn when duck footing a turn around.

those of us who have them are accustomed to waving to people like you know them when we accidentally beep the horn (we have had this discussion here in the past).

An adjustment to them would most likely result in a long reach and interference with the faring.

Sure the S3T bars can be made to hit the tank, but they do not in the stock position.

When I swapped my T bars for the standard I adjusted them so I can get full lock to lock. Perhaps whoever installed your bars rotated them quite a bit farther forward. Before going through the expense of a new handlebar and new grips you can pull yours back a bit.
If you go with new bars, can I suggest a set of Buell traction grips from American Sportbike?

My bars are the 5 1/2" rise so I guess they are "T" bars. At full lock there is about an inch of clearance from the Brake / Clutch levers to top of the opening in the fairing and about 3/4' between the horn button and the tank. I guess there is room for a little adjustment to the angle but I don't think it would make much difference overall. Thanks for all of the info and suggestions.

Shane, I have a stock seat and a Buell Select seat. I think that the stock seat allows me to sit a little lower, the Select seat is firmer and doesn't "give" as much when you sit on it.
Ed, wouldn't I have a clearance problem with the fairing if I raised the bars an inch?

oops, sorry, didn't think about that, as my aftermarket setup is mounted th the fork tubes, so it slides up and down as needed. if eyeballing or measuring eliminates the possibility of the risers fuhgedaboudit..................

I am not familiar with the Select seat. For my S3 I have a Corbin, a Buell standard, and a Buell Touring seat. The Corbin sets me back quite a ways and at the same time it lowers me down a good inch and a half over the stock seat.I end up sliding forward onto the nose if I want my arms comfortable. The touring seat I cut into and added a gel pad so it lifts me up even higher than before that. So going from my touring seat to the corbin makes a huge difference in my leg stretch and the reach to the bars. I brought this up because it may be something for you to experiment using some temporary padding. Adding even a half inch can have significant effect on the reach to the bars. You may find that with a little seat customizing you can reach a comfortable position.

I may try to do a little work on my stock seat to add a gel pad and to move my seating position back just a little. Your right, it doesn't take much to make a difference. It seems like I want to sit where the strap on the seat is to feel like I'm sitting in a natural position, so maybe I'll try to scoop a little foam out it that area and try that first. What did you use to re-attach the skin to the pan?
