does anybody know of any manufacturers or part #'s for a brighter headlight for the s2's? had a couple of close calls with deer now that the rut is on, and would like to have something to really light up the road other that stock. thanks. | ||

I put one of these in my S2. Better lens/beam pattern, and you can change the bulb (not the whole shebang like a sealed beam) without removing ANYthing other than a rubber boot, the wires, and the bulb. Just reach behind it, from underneath...and you're done in about a minute and a half. You can also change bulb color - I run a whiter bulb than stock, to get rid of the yellow. Hint - don't run a blue bulb. (my old job as a stage lighting tech coming through) Blue is one of the most difficult colors for the human eye to perceive, so you won't be able to see as well. http://www.quadratec.com/products/97009_02.htm | ||

I have been looking for a replacement for my S3 lamp. The pattern is split and in high beam the road is not as much the focal point as I prefer. Do you find the beam directed to one side more than the other with the automotive light? Thanks Joe | ||

I got the European version directly from speaker for my S3. same housing and original look. the beam is directed more to the right and in my opinion works better than the stock light. http://www.jwspeaker.com/catalog/forward_lighting/ model_942_943.htm | ||

First, the S2 lamp is different than the S3 lamp IIRC. Different size. I haven't noted any side-bias on the beam spread. It does have a hitch up on the right, to light street signs (shaped more like _/ if that makes sense), but not lighting up only one side at all. I've run E-code lights on a car I have (euro spec instead of DOT / US spec) and they're DEFINITELY better. Oncoming traffic probably doesn't like 'em <shrug>. | ||

Yes, the S3 headlight is entirely different from the S2 light. Joe, I followed the link to the Hella light. Looks great! Does it have the E-number in a circle somewhere on the lens? I can't tell from the pic. I still need to replace the S2 headlight with something that passes the inspection in Germany, once I have moved my S2 over there :-) And without the E-number on the lens I don't get a german title... How does the headlight fit in? Any modification needed? Thanks! Cornel | ||

Cornel: The one I used is not E-code, but Hella does make an E code light. Let me search a bit... The only "modification" I had to make was to pull out the headlight bucket from the fairing, and enlarge the round hole at the back where the wires pass through - had to make room for a bulb base now, instead of just a wire connector. Few minutes with a Dremel and it was handled  Once reinstalled, it bolts right up using the same trim ring to hold it in place, and the same adjuster screws to aim. | ||

Cornel - Glad to help! Wish I'd found that E code light when I bought mine, though...I'm particular about my vehicle lighting. It doesn't help that I have a degree, and used to work, in stage/concert lighting for years. Color theory, beam spread, proper focus....I can't get away from it! LOL. Joe, just installed the new light. Took comparative pics: old and new, same setup of motorcycle, low beam, dark garage, excuse the MESS :-) Pretty significant... can't wait for my first night out  old  new  | ||

Like I said...wish I'd found that E-code light before I bought the DOT one....E-codes ALWAYS throw a better pattern. Very nice, glad I could help out! |
