Hey guys, nOOb here and looking for some help. I have a 00 S3T I am considering buying, new to Buell but not HD, bike has 12K,black,race kit,V&H exhaust,shifter upgrade,PM wheels,o 2nd owner,all stock stuff included for $4500 or so. Shock was replaced,and throttle cable recall? How will this fit me on long rides at 6'3'' 240 and what do I need to look out for breakage wise? The motor mount deal bugs me, as well as what some of the problematic ECU/FI posts and poor support,HD dealers all over,none Buell locally. can these do hihg mileage without self destucting, I like to tinker, I dont care for a constantly dead bike as I need a daily commuter ride. Bad idea of not?

I don't know how much help I will be...but I LOVE my '02 S3T. I am 6'2" and am VERY comfortable on it. Mine had the race kit, V & H, PM wheels as well...There are MANY on this board who have very high miles on their bike. If you like to tinker (most on here do) with all the help you can get on this board, then you should have no problems fixing anything that may happen. I just recently replaced the front fork seals on mine with help from here.

One thing you might want to get is the VSDTS software so that you can set your own TPS. Mine is my daily commuter and the only thing that left me anywhere was a loose wire on the starter...found it and no big deal.

I bought my `01 with 6,000 miles on it and I had had all kinds of driveability issues at first - dealer was less than helpful to say the least.

Turned out to be intake seals and was a simple fix. Plan on replacing those sooner or later for sure, and you might as well buy the VDST computer program if you like to putz around.

My bike also needed the front isolator replaced. It was about $50 and about as easy as pie to replace. Consider these units a wear item like tires. You'll probably be replacing it every 3-4 seasons.

Lets see. Other than that, My hard bags had stress cracks, so check for that. A layer of fiberglass on the inside was enough reinforcement that it should last forever. I had a local boat repair place do it for less than $100. I should have done it myself - the guy made the repair without removing the latches and then they broke because there wasn't enough clearance due to the thickness of the fiberglass. grrr...

All this stuff is pretty nit-picky IMO. Over all, I love the bike and I'd make the same deal on it today as I did when I bought it.

I have a 99 S3T with only 4500 miles on it. Picked it up last year on eBay and parked it for the winter.

I have a 100 miles on it so far, and I don't care if it has reliability issues, it is just a blast to ride. My dealer has been great and I have learned a ton from this board. It reminds me of a hot rod BMW R100RS.

My previous bike was a Dnepr sidecar rig, so anytime I come out and the bike isn't on fire, I consider it a good day.

plan on replacing the fuel injection throttle body real soon if hasn't already been done. the throttle shaft will break and leave you stranded or have to limp home. the updated one has a heavier shaft that won't snap. Also these can suck parts ito your engine when they do break. Usually between 10-15,000 depending on how hard they are rode.

54,000 miles broke for me,on 99 S3. But do not know what year they went to heaver throttle bod if any ? Mine would idle then die. Got home on high idle.New one is robust! Butch

My 99 S3 has been very reliable for 25,000 miles so far. Never left me on the side of the road; still have the original battery! Bought it as a leftover in 2002. No big issues so far. Best bike I have ever owned, and I have ridden or owned just about every major brand and a few minor ones. Nothing else like it. I am 6'4" and have ridden 800 mile days with no problem.

Is there an aftermarket TB to replace the weaker one or is the stocker the best way and whats one typically cost? also who makes the oval/thin air cleaner setup I see? its still not a done deal yet, but Im lining up all the goods I`ll need to set it up bullet proof best I can.

My 99 S3 was from the darkside. The fi was a real piece of . Cost me a rebuild. I have converted to an HSR and got rid of the buell ignition in favor of a crane stand alone forgoing the troublesome wiring. Soon to test the zipper 88", head work, cams and HSR 45.
