Has anybody else put XB rocker covers on an S2? I put a set on my bike and the PCV on the back cylinder hits the bottom of the gas tank. I shimmed the tank up with a 1/4" spacer under the rear mounting plate, but I'm not real happy with that solution.

I'm thinking I might just put a plug in the PCV hole on the back cylinder and run a crossover breather line from the back to front. Since this motor has both the heads drilled for oil drainbacks, all I'm trying to do is take the blowby pressure out to the atmosphere, and a single PCV ought to be able to handle that.

Can anybody think of a reason why that won't work?

Jim, the breather holes are at the high end of the covers, toward the intake. Maybe I put the covers on the wrong heads--I'll take a look.

Mine is like Road_thing's. Or should I say was? I had a couple of extra pieces of the 'cut tubing with a flat on one side' that go between the frame tubes and fuel tank on the S2 laying around and put those on the ends of the center frame tube (the one that goes from side to side in the center of the center diamond - if that makes sense). It increased clearance some, but it is probably not ideal.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would explain the differences between bikes. Maybe something will come to me...

A very likely possibility is that I've got the covers on the wrong heads. My bike is out at the ranchito and I'm not gonna get back out there to look at it until next weekend, so there's no urgency to figuring this out. It oughta be NBD to switch 'em around if that's the case.

But if that doesn't solve the clearance issue, I'm gonna try the crossover tube idea I mentioned in my first post. Since these heads have oil drainbacks, I'm thinking that all I really need is to vent the rocker boxes to the atmosphere. There shouldn't be a whole lot of oil up there.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time I've ever been wrong...

Tom,
Both of my S2's have no clearance issues.
Need pic's?

Tom,I looked and mine are close also.I think that the silly gas tank recall stuff gets it just high enough.

Thanks! While you're there, could you measure the diameter of the stem on the PCV? I mean the part that fits in the rubber grommet that goes in the rocker cover. I'm going to go ahead and spin a plug out of aluminum but I don't have the part in hand to measure it.

Well, I'm still puzzled. Bluzm2 sent me the pix of his installation, and mine appears to be identical. My vents are in the same position as his, and my PCV's look to be the same part as on his bike.

I'm assuming that the Millenium cylinders on my motor are the same height as stock--is that wrong?

The only other thing I can figure is that maybe the bottoms of the gas tanks might be different.

Anyway, I'm gonna try to route all the blowby through one PCV and see how that works.

Thanks for the help, gents!

Tom,
When I get a chance, I'll take a shot of the bottom of my tank.
I can't get on of the 96 as it's buried and under a cover for a while yet.

Thanks, Brad! I machined a little aluminum plug last night, so I'll try my fix and let you know how it turns out.

OK, here's what I did:

I just plugged the branch of the "Y" tube that went to the rear PCV, in case this little brainstorm doesn't work out.

It's hard to see in this picture, but I ran a loop of hose from the rear rocker box (where there's no PCV) to the front. I went up over the carb rather than down under in case the line accumulates any oil. As I've mentioned, this heads have oil drainback lines so I don't expect a lot of liquid oil to carry over.

I'll let you know how it works.

Paint's done:

Chrysler "Viper Red". It's going back together next weekend!
