I'd love to help ya out, but I'm NOT taking my shock off the RS and taking it apart so's you can get that info!

Welcome Back, Aaron! I'm sure more than just me have missed 'watching over your shoulder' while you whittle up ugly metal blocks into works of art!

Maybe someone's got one or both of those shocks sitting under the bench they could measure up for you.

Aaron,

I have a shock that came as a spare with my S2. I have no idea what kind it is. I couldn't find any iddntifying marks on it. If it is one of the shocks that you are looking for, you are more than welcome to use it for your "creative endevour".

I will try to post a picture of it later.

Aaron; good to see your name around here again. I have my stock S2 shock somewhere in the garage. I can certainly give you relaxed measurements, not sure about how to get you fully extended ...?

If you can be a bit more specific about the exact measurements you need I'll be happy to get them for you this weekend.

thanks guys.. yeah, lot went on.. have a beautiful woman and her two mini versions living with me now.. 8 and 9.. and purchased a couple more houses in a package deal.. more buy one get one.. so that means 4 more apartments.. any spare time i have managed to hoard to my self has gone to the 69 triumph GT6 project..
buried in snow brings dreams of the buell so time to start the projects.. bike/car hopefully i wont get the measurements confused...

lefty,, always a pleasure,, still always have to click on your profile to look at that wolf in sheep's clothing...

buffalo bolt ,, thanks,, we will have to hook up this summer,, if for nothing else,, just to say hi.. post a pick if you can .. if not is the spring exposed?

henrik... my kind sir.. if you could give me an accurate eye to eye relaxed measurement i would be en-debted.. center of eye to center of eye to be more specific.. relaxed.. then just pull to extend..he he he!!!!
relaxed is good enough and a over the spring diameter..

as always .. thanks a million.. and yes.. upon success,, picks will be posted!!!

Hi Aaron; here are the measurements.

Please note, that as I don't have "long reach" calipers I had to farkle a bit to get the numbers, but I think they ought to be close enough. If you need exact, I'd be happy to send you the shock so you can do your own measuring.

For the diameters I'll give you a range; I measured several times in several places and got slightly varying results. But here goes:

Length, center-of-eyelet to center-of-eyelet: 16 1/2"
Spring outer diameter: 3.304" - 3.315"

I had to use a clamp to "gauge" the spring and then measure the inside distance on the clamp. Not perfect, but hopefully close enough.

Spring wire diameter: 0.486" - 0.489"

Let me know if you need more.

Henrik
P.S. are you still up for some rotor/wheel countersinking?

thanks henrik,, those numbers should work... oh yeah,,, forgot about that second rotor ... lives ben busy. were we only going to countersink the speedo drive side or both sides? either way.. i'm still up to help.. when ever you want to get started just let me know..

another phase of my of my evil scheme has me looking for a s2t or s2 side plate with broken kick stand mount.. i have heard of several people who's mounts have broke and the bike toppled over.. if some one has side plate with just the kick stand mount broken i would be interested..

oh well. back to cad.. see if i can get all these numbers to work for me...
thanks to all whom have helped thus far... from my secret lab.. aaron out!

hey jim,, good to hear from you..
unfortunately i cannot divulge info on the top secret assignment i have choose to undertake...

now that that has been stated,, just want to change out my kick stand.. i love the s2,, but the one place it really falls short is the kick stand.. for the life of me i have not ben able to come up with one good reason why.. like why dose my bike sit at a 45 degree angle.. or why can't i warm my bike with out sitting on it or choc the rear wheel. i think a nice billet kick stand in place of the long lever could be a plus.. and help to get rid of all the chunks of 4x4 i keep laying around so i can stand the bike up.. just a thought..
i figured more than one person has to have one of these things just laying around.. one with no plans or race bike attached to it..
so thats just another one of my current evil little schemes,,

I know I have at least one spare side plate at home - can't remember if it's right of left. I'll check, but likely not until tomorrow. If it is the kick-stand side I can ship it out to you. No work for me and no rush getting it back.

Rotor; great, thanks. I've been busy as well, but will hopefully have some time for MC stuff this weekend. We were only going to countersink the left side.

henrik.. thanks for the offer but i want to find a broke one that some one is willing to sell.. i want a broke one that i can completely shave off the old mount and start fresh.. but dont want to have to make a new side plate..

about the rotor.. if you just want the one side done and you have the tire off.. just send the rim and the one rotor.. if you have a good tire on it.. send both rotors so i can check/rebalance.
only want good vibrations when we are done...

Aaron; sorry, no broken side plates : )

I have one rotor and tire on the wheel, so I'll send the whole kitten-kaboodle along with the second rotor and mounting bolts out to you. Possibly sometime next week. I'll keep you posted.
