Nice job on the bike conversion!

The stand looks good as well. Looking forward to info on the stand. Does it work with the exhaust and original shock? Doesn't appear too........

thanks again for the comments.

Kinger the stand works with the original swingarm in place, but the front shock mounts need to be removed, could possibly be made to mount up to the front shock eye(not sure).Removing the front shock mount did'nt concern me as I won't be using it again.Where the mounts use to be is going to be my front exhaust mount and for the rectifier.

Jodie,
Awesome conversion! I have actually been planning on some heavy custom work on my S3 and I think I want to do this conversion too. Would you be able to tell me more about the adapters you machined? Do you have specs? Also, do you know if my PM wheels and brakes would go back into the XB swingarm? Do you have pics of the frame mount of the shock?
I'm very seriously wanting to do this with mine. How bout clearance and alignment with the belt? I am planning on lowering my bike about 3-4" also. Any info you could post would help. Thanks and good luck with the rest of the build!

Dave,
I must warn you I'm no technical drawer!!!
I do most of my work through images in my head and trial and error(hopefully less error though). I have tried to draw an illustration of what I have done. My spacers where they go into the XB swingarm will be TIG welded
(which I had delivered today)
You may have a problem with your PM wheels as axle and bearings in XB's wheel are huge. Since getting the Tig today I have started on the frame shock mount, originally I wanted to make it have a ride height adjuster. But after closer inspection I have to have it fixed as raising or lowering the ride height, belt clearance is not good. So i will retain stock ride height. Will post more pic's when I have it welded up. I also had to put some relief cuts in the rear footpeg brackets so they can be bent out and then welded back up, have done one side looks great. Here's my highly technical drawing.
Don't laugh to loud!!!

Cheers Jodie

p.s Spacers are times two as they are indentical. Belt alignment should be spot on. After making my spacers everything just slipped straight back together.
I need to get a longer belt, will be taking engine with swingarm attached to Harley dealer next week to match one up.

You kick ass Jodie, I've been wrestling with this for the past two days, now I just have to get my ass on the lath...awesome...did you have any trouble getting the bearings out of the XB swingarm? I'm using the same method I've used to get em out of the wheels but have been a real PITA...

Jodie & Ceejay,
Thanks to both of you for the great info...and for helping to convince myself that I'm not stoopid for wanting to do such a thing. I thought it made a lot of sense because the oil tank was the only thing I couldn't find a place for if I chop off the rear frame section.
I don't have access to a lathe or I could make the pieces, but would one of you be willing to make another set if I need?
Ceejay...got any pics?

Corey
XB and S3 swingarm bearings were no trouble to remove I made a tool from a piece of steel rod. I will post a pic of it later. This is why the notches in the spacers are very important for later bearing removal.
I have to go have a 5 year olds Birthday party to attend.
keep you posted.

here's a photo of the modified rear foot peg brackets. You can see the side stand below this is where the bracket use to line up to. So you can see how much I have kicked it out. Also had to cut the little rubber thing of the side stand(looks better with it off anyway!)

Right now most of my pics would look similar to Joes, except not as far along. I got the peices machined out, and hopefully get everything test fit this weekend. Still haven't gotten those bearings out, using a tool that fits into the bearing and then you slide a screwdriver type peice into the other end. I was able to get the wheel bearings out of the marchesini's with it but the swingarm has bee problematic. I'm still debating as to what I'm gonna do with the passenger sets. Originally I was going to do what you had done Jodie, but I have a passenger on so infrequently I may just shorten/remove. Plus if I can get the tail section on that I want I could attach them via the subframe. I'll try to get some pics soon. Mock up pics of your bike look very good Jodie...Are the wheels orange or red or should I just wait and find out.

Well, I won't have to worry about the whole passenger peg thing cause I'm using a '95 S2 frame... Which doesn't have the peg mounts as part of the frame. I just have to make new isolator plates that are only big enuff for the iso's so they will be minimal. I'm planning on putting 3/4 foot controls on it.
Great thread so far! I've already located a swingarm and shock.

Jodie,
I took the little plastic thingy off a long time ago, and it may be a good idea to put it back on. Due to vibrations, metal rubbing on metal, my kickstand has definitely become weaker, my bike hasn't fallen over but it has given me something to think about...I'll probably have to make a longer one anyway as this mod will probably raise my ride height-get a bit higher in the back so I can bring my forks back up in thier trees...

Corey,
I'm not removing the little bump stop, only the rubber bit near the foot of the side stand as it fouled on the swingarm.
I've said before you have to be careful about how much you raise or lower ride height on a Buell. as there are clearance issue's with the belt either hitting the frame or the swingarm mounting block.I wanted to make mine have an adjuster but there's just not enough room near the rear cylinder. I have made the top shock mounts just need to pull frame off again to weld it all up, but waiting to do S1 subframe(waiting on my chrome moly tubing to arrive)
You'll have to post some of your pictures Corey, I'd like to see how your going and how your ideas compare to mine.
thanks
Jodie

oops, I thought you were talking about the little peice going over the square on the frame, I had taken mine off for paint and forgot to put it back on. Since I'm running a chain, which hasn't shown up yet, my clearance issues may be worse due to the chain's height. I'm gonna have to mess with different chain rings sizes in the front, hopefully without getting too far away from the performance ranges that I want to stay in...I am going to machine down a little bit of the swingarm mounting block and add a teflon strip in the area where the chain may contact-my belt already has often...plus I am going to be using a tensioner, so hopefully that helps. I've wanted to raise the rear end up about 3/4 of inch. I previously had been trying to do it with different model years of front shock mounts but was never able to find one that would work. If I can bring the back tire under the bike a little more it means that I can put my trees back at the top of the forks and still keep the steering responsiveness...This would mean that the swingarm would move down along with the chain, so hopefully clearancing the swingarm will help. This also means that the front shock mount will move away from the rear cylinder, but I would like to make the attachment point with three positions. But this stuff can't be worked out until I make the necessary cuts and get everything test fitted. That being said I have no drawings, schooling, etc. so I may be talking out of my ass, ha, ha, ha...My compressor just went down so I'm gonna hopefully get a new one tomorrow, and get all the cuts done, and shoot some pics to get posted...

Going to Harley dealer today, should find out exactly what belt is needed then I can pass on belt length to you. I prefer the belt to chain, smoother, quieter, cleaner no adjustments + my current belt is the original with 52000 klms on it (never gotten that many k's out of a chain before)

well I finally got caught up to you sort of...and ran smack into what you were referring to as far as ride hieght adjustment goes...The front shock mount can go down some but not really back or forward or up. since I just got the battery tub out and the middle support bar out this has been the first time I could really put my idea into play and well it didn't play very long, ha, ha, ha...I have thought of another way but it won't look as clean as what you have and I'm not real sure if it would net any good results, I'll try to get that into a corel drawing tomorrow...I like belts for the reasons you described too, as I have about 20,000 miles on mine and I've abused it with no problems, but something about that chain has got me wanting one again...could just be looks, but I want one. I will hopefully get the grinding cleaned up tomorrow night and get a better idea of where everything has gotta go. Man every time I look at yours and then at mine-even though its gotta piece of rebar for the swingarm pivot and the tuber axle holding the rear tire in, I can't help but wonder why you, me, or anyone else hadn't done this before cause it looks spot on and should help with some of the problems that tubers can run into...
