It seems like one would have been adequate? They are sort of a pain to get off and on (like every 5,000 miles for the oil change and primary chain adjustment)..

Has anyone tried just one?

Thanks!

Well, Spyder...which pipe do you have?

I ask, because I have 2 pieces that hang down to mount the pipe..

On a couple X1's I have seen, there is a Z bracket, one pieces, that bolts to both mounting points..

My D&D cans tend to walk to the rear..it seems that the one piece would help eliminate that...

Dont know if thats the answer you are looking for...but... I will try to see if I can find a pic...

I have the Buell Pro Series pipe. It has 2 "rings" around the backside that bolt up to brackets under the motor.

Perhaps the walk back you mention is the reason? Makes sense..

Chase,

I recall when I installed the race kit on my X1, the two mounting pieces for the rear mount, were the upgraded mounts that came with the race kit. I don't have a photo, but they are basically short steel bars (maybe 3 inches long) with bolt holes in each end. The old style mount was the Z bracket that was basically a band that wrapped around the pipe and then bolted to the mounting points.

My guess is BMC switched to the double mounts to combat some of the vibration failures. I think maybe having a little give in it keeps it from breaking. Just my theory.

I know what you are talking about on the D&D though. When I had one on, it kept trying to walk back a bit too. Maybe part of it has to do with the clamp on the front mount seemed like it didn't hold as well as the Buell clamp. You might want to get the Buell clamp and add that on too. Al at American Sportbike has them for like $6 or so.
