Folks,

I have the wreckage of my old '96 S1 thief-crashed bike in storage which I'm finally about to visit wrenches in hand.

The first thing coming off is the KT Engineering pipe, for use on my '97 S3 : ). But I'm wondering what else might be..."interesting".

My main focus is on the forks. The S1 had a more fully-adjustable front fork, right? Should I pull that, rebuild it and then install it on the S3? Can I use the S3 triple trees on S1 tubes or do I need the S1 trees? Unfortunately I'm picking up the parts in another state from home where my S3 is, I'm on a business trip but with the weekend off to go strip parts from the S1 and hence I don't have the S3's measurements with me.

Both bikes have PMs, with the rear on the S1 damaged. The S1 has an S&S Super E, not interested as I think the Mikuni I put on the S3 rocks.

Also...is it possible to pull the front disk and brake off the S1 and set it up on the other side on the S3, turning it into dual disk? : D Probably excessive as hell but...they ARE the same series original PM calipers.

Most everything will swap over, though I cannot remember if forks are indeed better.Just knew the S-2's offered more adjustments. You can bolt the rotor up but the chances of finding that l/s caliper are tough.I have one and have seen a few go on eBay though. No one at PM or Nissin will cop to having a mirror image caliper to match the r/s as I checked years ago.Be sure to pull all the parts off that rear PM as we have guys looking for those spacers here.

I did just the opposite. I pulled most of the parts off an S3t to build an S1W. The forks and triples were the same. But I was also working with 2 '98 bikes.

I have both a 96 S1 and a 97 S3 and there is no difference between the forks. The older S2 did have a slightly better fork, even though it was also a WP. Agree with you on the Mikuni.
